    Im looking at getting a new car,and considering the Dacia Logan I 1.5 DCI version since it gets 3.9L per 100 KM on the interstate, compared to my current car that gets 11.67 L per 100KM on the interstate.

    Is there any place I can go that will help me purchase and import it to the United States? I heard that euro diesel versions can't be sold in the United States, but I dont know if I already buy it and then import it for personal use if its ok then.

    Im looking for a used one right now, like a 2006-2007 year one. Also is there a way to make it pass U.S. emissions tests for importing,then after I pass customs and have it, unmodify it so that it will still have same fuel economy.

    Your shipping costs from Europe would be 3k and each state has different laws on emissions so you would have to do your homework. The 1.5dci engine in the Dacia is a Renault unit....found in meganes/scenics/lagunas. No cheap renaults in the states ?

    Because I found a nice one for like $2200, so with state sales tax and federal import tax and shipping it will be no more then $3500 and it will get 68mpg compared to the 20mpg Im getting now.

    But if it doesn't pass emissions standards is there a quick modification i can do to pass customs,and then unmod it since my state doesn't do emissions testing on vehciles.

    @Duffers

    The last time I checked it was like 750 to 1000 usd for a car like the dacia logan from Romania to USA, but its been a while since I checked, so I'll have to get a qoute.

    I'd say that importing that car is not worth it and will never be. If your argument is 3.9l/100km, try setting up gas injection to nicer car and save about half of your gas money. Maybe that is not legal in states, correct me if so.

    Yes there is, despite what some may think, Romania is a country of all possibilities.

    From what I saw in his other threads/posts OP is a big fan of Romania and everything that has to do with it (on his avatar is the Romanian map) so that might explain why he wants a Dacia.

    Current rate for car shipping to America is around $100 per metre cubed (pm3) the Dacia is a small vehicle so should be under 10m3 so your price estimate is about right. However that's based on a ro-ro service...ie the car drives onto a car carrier like a sea ferry. Because used cars don't go to the states you are looking at getting a container service only. A 20ft container is $2600 roughly from a major European port so unless you are planning on squeezing 2 into a container it probably wont work.

    You need to speak to a specialist car shipping agent as I could be wrong. The problem is most stuff that gets imported into the states is exotic or expensive so $3000 is not such a large cost that they would try to shoehorn 2-3 vehicles into a container like they would for other markets.

    Does anyone know of a service that will ship a car from Constanta to either New York City, Miami or Houston?

    I emailed one company yesterday and I just got an email from them about shipping a car from usa to romania. I was like wtf I asked them about shipping from Romania to not USA not the other way,lol.
