I've always wondered, how big an impact on rankings does having a whole staging site indexed have if it's a well established brand?

I have seen rankings go up in a month or so after we disallowed indexing in staging environment.. this was an ecommerce store.. the rise wasn't dramatic but we could feel it, traffic went up 15-20%

With other clients, absolutely nothing. Google is both smart and incredibly stupid
i am not sure it was about the domain authority, maybe duplicated pages on live env had a boost when the duplicates were gone.. but you never know, it would take an experiment to find that out
