Interesting article here about content performance (a metric created by the writers) and how it influences ranking.

These guys looked at a pretty large data set and came up with conclusion about how google use content performance to rank pages and how it's a really big factor.

I guess we all know this but it's a pretty interesting read still. Also there is a tool in here for measuring and comparing your content to that of the competition (I haven't tried it myself yet though).

I messed up the title on this post, it was meant to read - Impact of Content performance on rankings.

Anyway, this is something that I have been reading a lot about recently. Link Assistant also wrote an article about it some time back, suggesting that you should be grouping together keywords into sets and ranking one set per article rather than trying to write content for ever keyword individually - basically suggesting that Google knows that different keywords mean exactly the same thing.

Everyone already knows about it in terms of being sure to include long tails in your article as well.

Either way, I still thought it was an interesting article - just made me think a bit more about how Google can determine how relevant and comprehensive an article is about the given subject - after all thats what they are trying to put at the top of the search results - the most relevant and useful content (Part from pushing their own content of course :) ).

Anyway, I came here to post an update - yesterday I rewrote one of my articles based on the results from the content performance tool and today it jumped up from #40 - #33 - 7 spots in one day (This is after moving the content performance score from 60 -> 90).

Could have been coincidence, I dont know. So today I updated another page of content (On a different site) and I took the content score from 90 -> 99. That page is currently ranked at position #9 so will see if that moves in the next few days as well.

Will do. The other thing I did at the same time was updating the text to improve the flesch score.

On this new page I have only made changes to improve content performance score. I will post back with any results.

I've been updating a few pieces of content too, using a free trial of this tool. It will definitely be interesting to see the results.

I am also using the free trial - but I signed up to get the full list of related words that the tool recommends. Anyway, I will post any updates here.

I got my first results too.
I changed the main article of one of my pages with this tool from 45 to 70 or something like this in the content performance score. I monitor 13 keywords on that particular site on which never more than 8 ranked at the sime time (site is still new and without many backlinks). Many keywords in the 80-130 range. So out of the 8 that were ranking max, 2-3 would jump around somewhere in the hundreds. After I did update that content score, had google recrawl that site and updated my rankings, all keywords are ranking now at the same time. Only 1 is still 100+, 3 keywords at their best position yet. I actually doubt that this is coincidence and I believe that there is really some power in optimizing the content.

The only real downside on that tool is the price and the 50 credits you get. When looking for a keyword, analyzing your content and analyzing again to see if the score increased and what you still could change, you need 3 credits. That are up to 15 articles you can optimize monthly and that is quite expensive for 100 bucks imo.

Nice, good to see you got results as well.

I guess you can do the same thing for free just by doing more detailed research on a topic - in theory if you find out everything there is to know about your topic and then write about it and combine it with all your target keywords as well, then you will likely produce a very high score in that tool, thus you can do without it.
