Build your own PC. I own an macbook pro, and running programs means having to start parallels. This takes up a lot of battery, and isn't very fast.

Might as well build a pc that will run a lot faster and customized for about 900$, than spend $1300 on a base 13" macbook pro that you can't run many programs on.

I'm using an iMac 27" and it works like a charm. Never really had any major issues and everything works perfect.

I'd recommend you get a Macbook only if you're on the move a lot of the times.

That's only if you are keep on getting a Mac. If you have the money, get a custom computer made for you with certain specifications to meet your needs.

    I haven't priced a computer in a while.

But considering all you'd really need is a decently fast HD, a nice i5 or i7, and sufficient RAM I'd doubt you should spend much over $500.

I've been building my computers for about a decade, and the single most expensive part is the CPU or graphics card. And since the latter isn't a big consideration here I think you can build a strong machine for ~$500.

I think you don't need a "super custom computer" for IM at all., a basic one will be good !

Any decent PC will be enough to IM. Use the saved money to get tools and goods (VPS, proxys, software, captchas, domains, etc...). Build income sources, make money and buy the MBP just for fun (you'll love it). Good luck for your business ventures.

Go for a pc. I use the MBP i7 , 8GB ram at work and the thing keps freezing on me. Granted I run win 7 on vmware and have a lot of stuff open, but here on the home laptop I have 2 opera instances with around 50 tabs each, firefox, chrome, excel , .... and its still really smooth. I put in 16 extra gigs of ram and still all costsless than a MBP.
For running tools get a server or vps.

PC nothing special about a mac except the fact that its cool looking . Macs use intel chips now, for what you pay for a mac you can build or buy a pc that would be 5 times faster

I would get a PC. Its a lot more flexible and can grow with you in whatever direction you want to go. If you bought a Mac you would also have to get VMware to compensate for the lack of tools you can use. So you would pay more. And for the price of a MAC you can get a super PC, and while you have the super PC you can learn visual effects and start doing hardcore computational tasks.

My advice is to kill yourself right now because you were considering getting a Mac. Not only this, but you were considering getting a Mac for IM.

Software compatibility. Need I say more?
