I'm so tired of trying to monetize the young demographic.

Well, I own one of the biggest Call of duty forums. It used to be super active, slowed down a LOT in the past 5 months or so. It's a PR4 forum, ranking top 5 for it's keywords, and has 24,000+ members (used to have a majority of them active) I don't think you understand how effing difficult it is to monetize kids. It's insane. I've tried as much as I could think of, tried going as far outside of the box as I could.

I'd be interested if anyone has any success in the xbox/ps3 gaming market targeting the younger crowd. If you want to take a shot at it, I welcome you with open arms.

I'm thinking of just selling the site out right and let someone else deal with it.

Any suggestions would be great! Also, if you've got ideas to get the site active again that'd be cool. I was thinking of implementing a live stream function for the users to live stream their gaming shit, or whatever they want. Idk. Tournaments used to work out nicely, but they are a SERIOUS pain in the ass with little to NO return. Idk, I'm in a creative block I guess.

    Thanks!

i'm sure you've tried this.. but i was a member of some cod facebook group and the guy always posted shit for free gold 12 month xbox live for free.. free xbox points.. etcetc.. and content locked everything.

maybe you could try some contests like that and give out some gold cards or xbox live points to get map pack upgrades?

    edit:

woops it was an xbox live page not cod.. he just posts about call of duty all the time.. here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Xbox-Live/142079099192195

with as much bullshit as he posts i sure hope he's making something.

its tough to monetize the younger niches, i had a few sites like these but i ended up selling them.

too tough, and generally crap traffic. think about it not many youngens have extra $$ to throw around. especially in today economy!

True, I would not mind selling it. Do you have any suggestions on someone or a company to actually quote the proper pricetag?

Well things like Amazon ads and ads for gaming stores like Playasia would be your best bet there. Kids don't have a lot of money to throw around; but they are still interested in video games and if they see a good deal they will snag it.

I ran some ads on a CoD forum with a rewards script before and it was pretty successful. Content lock everything and offer free shit. That gets the young blood boiling.

Do the ps3/xbox crowd rent servers for clan practice on ?
They sell well with serious PC gamers, however they're usually adults.

GOG.com have an affiliate program, and they're cheap enough for kids to afford.

For crappy traffic like that, I'd probably go for sponsorships and paid placements over extracting money from the surfers.

    Best of luck :06:

MW3 comes out Nov. 8. You should see your traffic going up by the close to the end of the year so I wouldn't sell it.

Sell it. There are plenty of forum buyers out there with deep pockets.

Monetizing young traffic is a nightmare. Let someone else deal with it and go deal with a more lucrative niche.

I have the same problem. I own a forum for gamers with around 7k members. Very hard to monetize.

But i use layerads. When they dont click on ads it is their fault to be spammed with layers ^.^.

My problem is that I can't get anyone on my gaming forum. It has CoD discussion too. Already know how to monetize it though.

as mentioned above.. earn points through surveys for prizes is the best thing i've come up with (and this is runescape traffic).

can also try cpmstar... get $1+ per registration to free mmo games.

You might not like this idea but it has worked for me in the past. People have mentioned content locking, the best thing to do is put up pages with new "hacks" or "scripts" for the game, but content lock the page. Then just throw on some old youtube video of a patched hack or whatever, doesn't really matter. You know what these kids are like, especially in the 12-14 category, there always looking for stuff like aimbots or whatever, when they think they have found one they will go to the end of the world and back trying to get it. <- Thats whats worked for me in the past anyways..

These are kids, probably could use extra money, perhaps you could turn them into workers for more lucrative projects.

You know I once purchased ad space on a torrent site...(big and familiar). It was a casino ad and produced one of the highest rollers I ever seen to play for real money. This someone left thousands on the table - You wouldn't believe it.
And as you know, torrents=kids. Mostly.

So you can never know where it can hit you.. Either sell it or just try new things that you never did.

Hook 'em with free trials that automatically turn into reoccurring payments, (on their parents cc)?

A lot of good suggestions, leaning towards selling moreso than anything else. I've got other big projects I need to focus on and look at me here wasting my time on trying to figure out what to do with my forum :p

Thank you guys for all of the suggestions! Now i just need someone to quote the price of my site :p
