I'm ranked #1 for my keyword, but I'm not seeing any traffic.

Hey guys, I finally got ranked #1 for a keyword that gets 4.4k searches monthly! I'm getting about 30-40 visitors a day granted, but AWStats says only a couple are from my keyword. Like barely 6 or 7 a day. What's the problem!? It took me a month to finally figure out how SEO works and such, and now I'm #1 and I can't even boast the glory lol...

Maybe your KW is periodic? If it is a keyword like bikini you maybe not have so much visit now :D depend of your country...
be careful about the google traffic stat sometime it is not very effective or totaly wrong...

Is your title and description as compelling to a searcher as position 2 and 3 to make then want to click? Maybe rewrite your description tag to try and increase clicks?

The keyword is is about 4 words and it has to do with PC hardware so it can't be about seasons. I just rewrote my meta-description but honestly the last one was fine too. IDK about the bounce rate, but the problem is I should be seeing more visits because I'm #1. Or is my keyword really that bad?

EDIT: Also I see that I rank #4 for a 2 word keyword that matches part of my long phrase keyword. I just re-reviewed the AWstats and yesterday I got 50 U/V and today it's at 25, hopefully I see a change today cus I just moved up from spot #4 to #1 today.

BTW, I NEVER make sites in technical fields like that, because PC and techie guys know what our sites look like, know about ads, and are sometimes freaks about security and not enabling java etc.

Just sayin, I stay away from the computer savvy topics and target young and old people lol..

Not saying this is the prob, just thought I would chime in with my thoughts on that "topic".

Good point but my site is about a review, there's nothing being monetized yet, I'm just trying to get traffic.

Have you tried searching without cookies? Search for your keyword in Chrome's incognito mode (or your browser equivalent private browsing) and see if your site is still number 1.

Make sure your traffic is based on exact match rather than broad match, for a more accurate picture of how many visitors you should be getting each day. Also, use Google Trends to make sure the majority of that traffic is coming from your country. For example, you may be #1 in Google USA for a term that has 99% searches from people in Australia using Google Australia.

Yeah, I always use private browsing to check too.

I recommend that you get Traffic Travis the free edition to check rankings, better then the paid edition IMO.

If you really want the paid edition there is a step-by-step guide on the forum somewhere.

This is why a rank tracker service is useful! Sometimes Google knows if you own the site and bumps you up in the rankings when you are logged in.

Also--second the person who said always use exact match! That's so important--broad match doesn't give you a valid indication of how many people are searching for that keyword for SEO purposes.

You are probably not looking at EXACT searches per month...probably BROAD.

So tell us, is it exact or broad?

It is not sufficient for getting traffic you have to promote it. You can promote on social media, portfolio sharing sites, etc. After promotion you can get more traffic.
