I'm new to everything relating to internet marketing, SEO, and making money on my own. I can surely say that in the past couple days of lurking, I've quickly learned a fair amount of the jargon this community is accustomed to using. BHW will definitely be my prime resource of learning and growing my online marketing presence. However, I'm suffering from an immense amount of confusion. I have no idea where to begin. I was hoping to find someone who would spare some time to answer questions, either through email or instant messaging. Things like what online platform is popular and most lucrative, what service(s) to offer, how to network, and how to get advertisements. I'm taking this venture seriously but I need to start somewhere. I just don't know where.

I should point out that I have zero budget. I'm going to assume that I should start with Wordpress or some other CMS that's free to start bring in a bit of money for other, much larger sites. I've thought out a few niches that I personally believe will attract traffic. However I'm still fuzzy on how getting traffic to read a website will bring in money. I'm not understanding how that works.

Aside from my questions, I'd like to say hello and I look forward to contributing to the community in the future. Thanks!

There are lots of info here because there are always people like you that wish to learn and many advices have already been given.

Then I don't want to repeat things that have already been said.

My suggestion is that you spend some couple hours reading some posts related to newbie, easy way to start and stuff like that. Just search BHW typing these keywords and you'll see how many answers all you'll get.

    All the best and welcome!

There are plenty of these kind of threads here as well.

Everyone in the IM community will tell you: If you don't start doing, you'll never make money.

    So here:
    1) Find a method that's posted by one of the many contributing members of this forum. They are listed with words such as, "How to make x/day or xx/day; NOOB FRIENDLY!". Because really any amount is good money for working on the internet. PER DAY.
    2) Follow it.
    3) Use that creative noggin' of yours to make it better.
    4) Profit.
    5) Have fun too.

Once you turn your profit. Scale up. Once you've scaled up. Diversify.

Welcome! Having been in your shoes some time ago, I understand the what you're feeling. If there is one thing that I can say that taught me was to literally read EVERYTHING you see on here. Some of it is fantastic, other threads not so great. But the point is the more you immerse yourself in everything that is going on the more you will pick it up, and more importantly form your own conclusions. There are a trillion ways to go about IM, so taking the knowledge that you have gained from on the boards and forming your own conclusions is key.

Oh, and by the way, BHW is like a giant rabbit hole. Once you fall down, its the best trip of your life.

Two of these best pieces advice I can give you is 1) If you find a good designer, don't let them go 2) Start with one aspect of marketing. PPC or SEO would be a good place to start. Concentrate on one thing and get really good at it.

Oh and don't give up. The majority of people have no idea what Internet Marketing is, so you will have a lot of naysayers along the way. Don't listen to them.

Fortunately I'm both a design and programmer so I can do most of the work myself. Everyone has told me PPC doesn't work well. I'd like to make $100 a day fairly quickly. I'm mainly doing this to bring in income while I go to uni.

Being a designer and programmer puts you at an advantage over me. I'm also starting out but already making a little cash due to the generous souls at BHW.

In addition to reading, try typing "method" in the search function, pick one of the results (many need little or no investment), and have a blast at it.
