It's only been a few months since I have started taking IM seriously.
One thing I became sure of is the fact that I'll have to sit for long hours on PC in order to get stuff done.

I easily loose focus after a few hours. Plus that fact that majority of our work takes place on the internet it's easy to get distracted (Social Media,Porn,Random clickbait links etc)

I'd like to know how do serious IM'ers stay focused for long hours.?

Plus, it has also started taking a toll on my health. Started growing a belly and I feel lethargic even after a nice 8-10 hours of sleep. I'm just 20

True that we tend to make a lot of money. But is it coming at the cost of our health ?

I'm thinking of coming up with a proper timetable to keep a balance of all the aspects of my life. Also, gonna start exercising daily.

Let me know your thoughts on it :)

I just enjoy being in front of a computer, lots of my old friends probably think I'm a caveman but to tell the truth I really don't care because I know my future is bright.

Make sure you are still exercising and moving around.

Work for 25 or 50 minutes, then take 5 or 10 minutes to stand up and walk around, use the bathroom, get a drink etc

If you have got the money, I would recommend a treadmill desk.

I externalize a lot of work, as much as possible. Programming, content scrapping,.... Plus I always (almost:)) when I do my "to do list" for the day, I put there "SPORT".
Also, I try to put at least one meeting per day with a person that I don't know (potential clients, partners). This gives me a refresh each day and helps me keeps focus better.

Focus can be honed like any skill, it helps to think of mastering focus as an end goal it's self.

Lists make me focus and give me a sense of achieving something, the trick is to make those lists a step towards completing your grand plan. First, write down your overall goals on a piece of paper, e.g create a successful SEO business and then at the start of each day, spend 5-10 minutes making a list of tasks that you HAVE to complete that day that are steps towards these end goals.

Don't make a list that's unreasonable or unachievable, you need to experience the endorphins released upon finishing that list, when the list is done STOP, that's a productive day, do not overwork or it'll impact your next day.

There'll be times when you stray, when that game/porn/information calls to you louder than the internal voice that tells you that you should be working, we all have them but by limiting your work to your list and only your list, it allows you to think 'the sooner I get this done, the sooner I can do whatever the hell I want'.

It can help to know that you only do things because you actually WANT to do them, your subconscious mind is your master, you need to align it with your conscious mind in order to get things done. All it wants to do is things that will make you happy but it loves the instant gratification of a distraction, visualisation techniques can help you to do this...check out a book called 'NLP for dummies', it'll help.

Keep trying and keep striving, mastery of oneself is the only obstacle to success in every way.

Oh, reading BHW for hours is never a problem. It's when I actually start putting to practice what I read that I start loosing focus.
BHW is pretty addictive. People just don't realize it. Pretty easy to keep reading and not take any action.

When I started I thought of IM'ers as really rad guys making the moolah and layin chicks everywhere :p

It's when I started networking with a few I came to know that's not the case. A lot of them lack social skills and a healthy lifestyle, which are as important as making money is in my opinion.

    Obviously there are exceptions

I know what you mean, but I think it's better to have a good plan without executing it rather than being an idiot shooting blanks all day -- constantly trying and trying but not seeing any results or seeing little results. It's much rarer to be the first guy but I think it's definitely better.

Getting up and moving around after an hour of work and exercising daily sounds like what you need to do. It will keep your mind more focused and make you feel better! Good luck and keep your head up!

I take frequent breaks. Some people have the type of focus to sit until their project is done but I don't. So about every hour or two I get up and go do something else. I may play 20 minutes of video games or go sit outside, take a walk, go talk to a friend - something that doesn't involve the internet. Then I'll go back to work.

Moving around and exercising is a great way to stay focused.

Yup, that's why I clean up at networking events (not literally)...'oh your business is so interesting, tell me more'...

Most 'tech' people can't talk and in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Noone is perfect and everyone goes through different phases, cycles and problems.

A lot of the issues IMers face are similar to any other occupation who works at home. Like at&t engineers. My brothers been working at home for 10 years now. What he calls "problems" are things most people would consider privileges (ie. having a fridge 40 ft from your office).

And I learned some interesting shit by watching the private "therapy meetings" at&t does for their work at home employees. When you listen to these people talk and what they talk about, it's all the same shit IMers complain about. One thing I found interesting was all these people saying how they got depressed after 2-3 years. So many went through this slump. It's that point you realize working at home just isn't what you expected. You can feel isolated, suffocated and meaningless.

What I learned from the veteran engineers was mainly 2 things.

    1) Schedules are good. But humans aren't robots. Don't expect to do everything on the day you planned. Nevermind a specific hour or minute. As long as you're getting most your work done every week that's all that really matters.

    2) If you don't handle isolation it'll handle you. You'll find yourself coming on forums just to "socialize". Like I'm doing right now. The problem is, forums aren't a real social activity. You're talking to mostly people you don't know or care about. It's not very fulfilling. Spending 90 mins at the gym for me is like the equivalent of spending a whole day online making useless posts. Even if I'm not talking to people, just being around people is more fulfilling than writing this post right now. :D Other people do volunteer work. Or you can join a class or club. Go shopping. Take up boxing. Golfing. You NEED things that will keep you around other people. You can also do skype group video chats with fellow IMers. Organize them yourself if you need. I know it's cliche but humans are social creatures. Research has shown even antisocial people get depressed when they're isolated. Isolation kills motivation and make everything seem so meaningless. Then you attach that apathy and depression to IM rather than the isolation.

I really can't stress the isolation point. As cheesy as it sounds I think many problems, lack of goals and fulfillment stem not from a lack of money, but a lack of meaningful relationships. When you have relationships with other people, everything feels so much more meaningful. You're more motivated. You don't stress as much. Everything seems right in the world. And especially with the way technology is taking over, the way teens are acting these days, this issue will only get worse and worse.

Getting laid, working out, eating healthy, taking mind breaks is all I need to get my fucking focus to sit at the desk and WORK.

I'm not your therapist, but if you can't focus to MAKE MONEY then there's something wrong with you mean ( and I don't mean it in a bad way. It may be a small thing. )

Just live normal life. Eat healthy. EXERCISE. Sexercise. Take breaks ( this is important. ) Just live normal life and make your brain to believe that IM is your fucking job. Block the shit which messes with your head and just work. Is that really so hard?
