Hi guys! I'm having some issues with the rankings of my best keyword in Google. I would really like your opinion about this. So... This particular page of my website was always ranking between the 2nd and 4th position for this kwd. That was until 2 weeks ago. It suddenly went down to the 90th position. That was for me clearly Penguin because I had a very high kw density and also many shitty forums links with exact anchor that I did in the past.I was preparing myself to clean my LB profile etc but the first step was of course to change the content. I changed the texts completely and surprisingly the day after it was back! That made me curious. I started thinking that maybe it wasn't Penguin but another part of the normal algorithm. Maybe some spam filter performing on-the-fly. The problem went back today again. This page is again in the 9th page for that keyword. What do you think is going on?Should I wait or would you recommend to start cleaning my LB profile immediately? (apart from many very HQ links I have also forums and directories manual links)Other consideration: This page is still ranking as before for some other keywords.Pages within this directory are ranking for the affected keyword. I'm really waiting towards to your comments! Thanks!

You're all over the place OP, and you might as well use this as a test site while you start a new project doing things properly.

First of all, you mention that you're changing entire pages of content. That's a complete no-no as you have no idea if that's what was helping you maintain that rank before. Tweak your page content in small amounts, not entire pages at a time.

Next you point out that your backlink profile is full of spam and junk links. Do you really think this page is going to stay at a high rank for very long? It's only a matter of time before it gets annihilated... not "if", but "when". Now don't get me wrong, spam/junk/bulk links are still VERY useful, but not when pointed directly at "money site" pages. That's crazy talk.

Look - stop micromanaging your SEO like this. It's the best thing you can do. Start focusing on building something that will attract natural shares, backlinks, etc. and do some guest blog posts with relevant bloggers in your niche to get some follow-on traffic and proper exposure. Start thinking less like a SEO and more like a marketer... the old-school-throw-a-shit-ton-of-bad-links-at-a-page-to-rank-it mentality is toast.

    Adapt or perish.

    Thanks for your suggestion Tangy!
I agree 100% about that micromanaging SEO... you're right... sometimes we just focus too much on particular kwds and all that stuff.
Anyway... about changing the content. Maybe I wasn't clear enough... I didn't change all the content. Only the SEO optimized texts (one on a footer and another one on a sidebar) I would say that's the 30% of the page's content.
About the links... my LB profile is quite big and diverse. But yes.. last year we've been some intense LB in forums and directories. Everything manually though. Never scrapebox or automated software.

    Thanks again for your tips!
