Here's the situation, I just took a job as an Internet Manager at a used car dealer (to generate money to put into my IM). I've been in the car business on and off for 7 years. Now I'm fairly new to IM, so bear with me. 3 years ago when MySpace still had a strong following, I was killing it in the car biz with MySpace friend finder, and multiple accounts, sending 3,000 geo targeted friend requests per day. I was in a huge metropolitan area which helped. Now I'm in a city of about 100k-200k people (depending on the winter visitors). What I want to do is make a completely separate website with all of our inventory and a different name. I'm thinking the name should be (name of city) Used Cars and Consignment. The consignment part is to drive those trying to sell their vehicle, to me, chances are they need to sell their vehicle to buy another one. Questions: How would I get an additional spot in Google places (I think that's what there called. If you search for **** Used Cars the first 7 links have the have the name of the business with the address to the right of it). Do you register the business with Google? If so, could I register it with the same address as my dealership and add a "unit 1" or something? Are there ways to get to the top? Since I'm only competing with local dealers on Google in a fairly small population, it shouldn't be that hard to get to the top. Any recommendations to someone on a budget as far as the bare minimal seo products needed? Down the road I would like to make a separate classifieds section where the public can sell their vehicle on my site (this would drive more traffic to my sight and get more people looking at my inventory). How would that effect who I choose for hosting? Any thoughts? Suggestions? I appreciate any help! sd

Im in the car game. Unless your city is somewhere off the map then you will find that ranking for "used cars"}{"cars for sale" etc etc is a real bitch. Dealerships spend a fortune on online and offline advertising. You will only get one Google place per address. Sign into your Google account and set up a google places account. They will mail you out a card with a verification code.
