ok im a noob so please excuse my ignorance but i am buying a bot from someone which most likely will be an "exe" file. common sense tells me this could be dangerous territory so i have 2 questions

1.) other than viruses what else should i be careful of? any other specific computer wizardy or sorcery (lol dunoo what else to call it) that i should watch out for?

2.) will a typical virus scan be good enough? if so, what virus programs are the best to scan for that? reccomendations and specific names of programs please

3.) any other advice for a noob like me ? i need to buy a separate PC computer (only have a mac now) for this purpose so does anyone have any good reccs for PCS in the 300-400 price range that would be good for running bots? i was eyeing the Acer Aspire One 756 for $349

    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium - 64-bit version - Intel® Celeron® Processor 877 (1.4GHz, 2MB L3 cache) - 4GB DDR3 SDRAM - 500GB hard drive - 11.6" HD Widescreen CineCrystal™ LCD display (1366 x 768) - Intel® HD Graphics - Mobile Intel® HM70 Express chipset - webcam - high-definition audio support - built-in stereo speakers - multi-gesture touchpad - 802.11b/g/n - 10/100 LAN - HDMI® - USB - 2-in-1 card reader - 4-cell battery - full-size Acer FineTip keyboard - 2-year limited warranty

thanks . this is a serious thread and help would be greatly appreciated.

    Always be worried.

You should have good virus tools on your PC. Also, upload the file to VirusTotal for a full report. See what it say. If it comes back blank, feel free to install.

This is quality advice. Look up a virtual machine program on Mac and run the file in xp or 7. Should be easily found gratis through torrents.

    WAIT guys..
    couple questions about Virtual PC

1.) if i run it on a virtual PC would this mean that i dont have to run any virus scans on it and that im completely safe? or would i still have to run a virus scan on it?

2.) was buying a separate 349 dollar Acer PC with the specs above a total waste of money (i can still return it) because i do have a brand new spankin Macbook Air...and r u telling me that i couldve just ran the exe file bot on my mac??!

3.)are there specific names for these virtual programs? is one called parallel ?

4.) someone told me that if i tried to run it on a mac that it would eat up the macs ram and cause it to be really slow especially if i want to run other programs while the bot is running in the virtual PC....and that i should just go out and get a separate PC. false or true?

Was that someone a salesman? You can use bootcamp, I wouldn't recommend for this though, or vmware. idk Mac software well enough. You wouldn't HAVE to scan it but it wouldn't hurt. You don't need a whole new PC for this though .

If virus is FUD then virustotal won't help, but you can re-scan with virustotal that file and in couple weeks you'll see if it's infected as virustotal gives the sample of your file to anti-virus companies
    1. Some viruses has anti-sandboxie etc
    3. sandboxie
    4. I don't have mac,but i'm pretty sure it's bullshit,You can buy VPS ,VDS or RDPS for bots will be good, depend from your bot

If you're getting a bot developed, ask for the source code and then compile it yourself.

If you want want to run only a single bot then
dont waste 350$ on new computer , instead buy cheap Windows VPS which will run the bot 24x7.
Also as you will be using it on a VPS ,you shouldnt worry about virus/RATs in it.

If you are buying a custom bot, the things you should think about are:

    1. Is it safe - you already mention the virus side of life and VT is cool for checking.
    2. Support - what is included with the bot, updates included, support available all the time. Anyone can make a bot, its the support that counts (in my opinion).
    3. Run it virtualised if you are worried. On a Mac get VirtualBox and install a Windows virtual machine in that

Those are the main three things you seem worried about.

use vmware and virus scan (win) for your mac. works like a charm and you dont have to buy a new laptop. depends of course if you intend to run it 24/7 and how resource hungry the bot is. 2nd option as suggested just get a vps to run it on 24/7

thanks but the poster above said "If virus is FUD then virustotal won't help, but you can re-scan with virustotal that file and in couple weeks you'll see if it's infected as virustotal gives the sample of your file to anti-virus companies" i have no idea what this guy is saying either..can someone dumb it down for me. if virus is FUD? virustotal wont help? if it wont help why would i rescan it by the time i rescan it wouldnt it have already infected my computer?

where can i get virtualbox (for mac) for free? this seems like the most simple safest option. i went to isohunt torrents and its not no there

If you are this worried about a virus, why not just buy uBot and create the bot yourself? Honestly, I don't think I would be worried about wizardy of any kind if I had a custom bot ordered. Just have a reputable bot creator make it for you.

after reading all these replies my head is spinning.
    here is what ive gathered:

The simplest most easiest and cheapest way to avoid the dangers of a custom bot on a MAC is to install a Virtual PC onto my MAC (something like the program called "Parallels") and to run the bot
from inside parallels program. This is 100% safe and i will not be subject to viruses or any other harm that can come with a custom bot file.

    right????
will someone correct me if im wrong?

VMware on Mac will just enable you to run Windows on your MAC. It wont prevent Ou might refer to sandbox environment, which you can isntall for win to win dto run you bot in

Get a USB with a live OS on it, so if virus there is, whatever changes it makes stays only in the virtual memory/RAM.
