Guess I should tell you all about me. My last vacation was 16 days on the tropical islands off Nicaragua - the Corn Islands. That was Dec. 25, 2012 - (something like) Jan. 9, 2013.

I like to escape, err, I mean I like to travel.

Prior to this, within the past 10 years, I have spent 5+ years traveling. The formula is easy - save money, travel, run out of money, come back home - tail between legs, earn more money, travel again.

My name is Phillip. I live in Texas.

In the past 10 years I have visited:

Mexico (Many times as I speak Spanish)
    Guatemala (lived here 3+ YEARS)
Honduras (scuba diving, got my PADI scuba dive master cert here - 8+ months)
Nicaragua (cannot even say what I did here, other than scuba diving, coconuts, beer for breakfast - I'll stop there)
    Colombia (left quickly)
Venezuela (almost got into a boatload of trouble)
Peru (both times I visited I swear I almost died in this country)
France (Drove through, spent an evening, with Denise)
Switzerland (3 months with Denise, mmmmmmmm, how nice that was!)
Spain (2 weeks with Denise and friends)
Thailand (One month including 2 days of a 10 day fast, no speaking Buddhist retreat I failed miserably)
Malaysia (3 weeks on a 150 foot super yacht baby! Free.)
Indonesia (2 weeks in a Bali layout + airfare, also free, compliments of the super yacht owner and his wife, how sweet is that?)
Cambodia (just missed Hillary Clinton's visit as Secretary of State to Angkor Wat by two weeks, maybe she can see me next time)

Where have you guys been? How did it work out for you?

Depends on what the locale offers.

Love the diving in Malaysia, Corn Islands and Honduras - the girls in bikinis too!

Love the food and the people in Thailand.

Love the good times in Guatemala, you just had to be there my friend!

    @TheDorf

Congrats on being able to travel to all these countries,I want to increase the amount of countries I visit/live at before I die thats for sure!
So btw did anyone ever try and scam you while you visited any of these countries? I seen this tv show about the many different scams that exist in other countries outside the U.S and was wondering if you experienced any of this?

Yes unfortunately I was scammed in Peru and Guatemala. You have to be careful, more careful than I was.

I'm interested to hear your scam stories in both Guatemala and Peru. Might be helpful to us :)

I often read scam stories too from other sites just so i can be more careful. I also love traveling. Have been to all countries in SE Asia, HK, Macau, Scandinavian countries, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Chile. Plan to go to Argentina and UAE next December

In Guatemala the scam would be called "The Lookout".

Basically a bunch of us were swimming and chilling off some cliffs, near the bottom by the water.

I noticed a man well above us on the cliffs just standing there, never looking at us. He stayed for a bit, but it unnerved me so I went over to check my bag (silly of me it was the farthest out, on some huge boulder of rocks).

By that time my bag was gone and so was the man. A short bit later I saw a young boy (probably the man's son) climbing the trail well above us with what appeared to be my bag, going in the direction of the man - but he was so far gone it wasn't worth a chase.
