I just moved into college this week, and the max download speed is about
26 KB/sec. Honestly, wtf. Tuition is bloody expensive. So does anyone know of something I could purchase while I'm here at college like some kind of mobile broadband.

Does anyone have any good reviews on anything I could purchase monthly? I need to continue working on BH stuff, but it's kind of hard with this killer slow internet.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Has anyone heard of http://iroam.com?

I have a broadband modem from Cricket that I use as a backup Internet connection, and it works pretty well. Also, you don't have to sign up for their phone service to get broadband. :)

Time to make lemonade. Get yourself one of the new mifi devices and share or rent out access to your dorm mates or roommates. You could probably even make some money.

You could try services like these. Remote access to your own PC with fast connection or one of theirs with fast connection.
Your connection will probably still bottleneck but you only need it to check what's happening on the remote PC, screen updates.
After starting up what you wanted to do on the remote PC, you only have to refresh your screen to check up.
At least you're working on your own PC at home/work or one of theirs, in both cases with a faster connection.

    Free version :

Very expensive, but maybe you can gang up with some study buddies :

When you are sure that you are going to die, let me know, I'll give you my bank account details to transfer all your money into my account. :p

    Good luck with it.

Don't forget to tell him to also get a nuclear bunker with a good stash of food with that. For when the FBI comes looking for him. :p

So far the Verizon MiFi looks like the best bet, but the max monthly bandwidth I can get is 5G. Seems a little slim, and every MB after that is $0.05.

talk to a few others, often there are tricks to get higher speed.
Like tunneling your data through a server in LAN you have access to or similar.

Thats not bad....I remember being online with 600 baud modems at a speed of 1.2 kbp/s

I would suggest getting a Windows VPS, and only use your connection for remote desktop to that VPS.
That way you can download a LOT faster. You can always transfer the files from the VPS to your own computer once you connected to a faster internet connection at home or whatever.

First of all, @blackberry why the hell do you bring from death topic which is 3 years old ?

And @lakim0 & blackberry what is the use of VPS when he can't watch the movies he download, listen to songs which he download or play the games he download ?

    Makes no sense.
