I'm doing SEO for a company right now that I feel could benefit from traditional email marketing. They had a nice site and great products. Obviously I'm working to capture incoming emails etc, but we need a kick start. Has anyone had experience in buying legitimate email lists in the UK and is it worth it? Other suggestions...

Best to build your own list as it will be more targeted. Start by looking at the businesses current customers and targeting them. If new customers buy online, offer them an incentive to subscribe to the list, e.g. free newsletter. It does take work, but may be worth it, depending on the client.
