Hi guys i i'm a newbie and i want to earn money using associated affiliates like amazon. My first project is to create a site that would link to amazon store since i have a tools like niche cracker and little knowledge about EMD and Keywords. My question is do i need to look for high (Global Monthly Searches) and high (Local Monthly Searches)?

It really depends on demographic and the product actually. If you are targeting products on amazon.com ,for usa traffic, you better target for high local us searches. Say for example, halloween costumes on amazon.com, people from usa usually buy from there with local shipping. So its like that. Say if its iphone 4 or something, usually less international people buy from amazon because of heavy custom duties. They prefer buying from their local sites. So, ask yourself, are you targeting country specific traffic? Are these people willing to buy this product from amazon.com?

You look for global searches when you are dealing with more general products - say weight loss related ebook. Anyone in the world who is fat/obese wants to buy it. It is a more like a general problem. And its an ebook -so , free delivery anywhere , so any person from uk,usa, australia can buy it. (So, if you are seeking to promote kindle ebooks, global traffic should be the one to look).

    Just my 2 cents

I think you should try to generally focus on local searches <500 per month with products around $100. You can also make site with high search but low product cost in order to sell more and raise you % commission higher.

Try reading some ebooks from the download section before starting, you'll get valuable tips that will help you better understand the amazon associate program and will also lessen the amount of mistakes you'll make.

    Good luck!

If you're just starting I would recommend you to start with a easy level competition.
And if you can rank an easy keyword #1 then start doing some medium.

    Just my 2 cents

less competition is always best. as a newbie u dont wanna compete with the best as it might demoralise u and put u off. once u start seeing some success with low price products (forget about making money when u start) and working with the best strategies u urself have experimented with then you can gradually build yourself up.

im young, the way i see it is that there has to be a new generation to replace the current one. the new generation learns new things that didnt apply or wouldnt have worked for the older generation as google and the internet is becoming more sophisticated. it's good to take advice from the experts as i do myself but you have to start experimenting with ur own ideas in order to stay one step ahead otherwise you will always rely on the others.

Here is a quick tip, for competition - I usually go with low competition keywords because its easy to get ranked quickly. I use seoquake firefox plugin and traffic travis to check seo competition.
If there are more than 3 pages from domains which are pr < 3 , its usually easy to rank, also sites with zero backlinks are less than 5. Just personal experience, you still need to do your linkbuilding and stuff. I am not a pro but thats what I do and yeah, you just experiment with different stuff and see what works for you :)
    Good luck
