If you delete all files for a site so that the site is not available for a few days...and then a few days later, you upload the files so the site is available, how will that affect rankings? Will you end up being the same in the serps, or lower?

Ii may have no effect at all. Sites expire and disappear for a short while all the time. When they come back, if it hasn't been too long, they are fine.

    Theseodude,

In my opinion, I doubt it would affect anything at all. If you truly only deleted files for 72 hours, I doubt much would change. If you have a high traffic site your users would definitely notice but as far as rankings, it takes a while before Google drops you from the SERP's because the site is no longer there.

Although this post doesn't give a specific time frame, Google does mention that pages returning a 404 error code will be removed.

    Hope that helps,
