If you were on a national reality show, what would you do to monetize the exposure?

If you were on the main cast of a new reality show on a major national network, what would you do to monetize your exposure?
Would you partner with an app developer and split the revenue?
Would you partner with a web developer on a site with financial promise given solid traffic and marketing support?

I'm genuinely interested in what ideas some of you can come up with.

    Thanks.

Wouldn't try to sell anything. The exposure to build your own name and credibility is a much bigger opportunity and investment into the future than any monetization method could pay.

I'm not sure how it works but I have a feeling that you have to go through the network first before you can promote a particular brand. IE. wearing a dropbox tshirt.

Be sure to consult with them first before doing this. :p

Indeed... otherwise you'll just end up on national television wearing a white t-shirt covered in black gaffer-tape.

I've participated in a few reality shows and as Tony_d said, they typically request you wear clothing without any logos. If for some reason you don't have that or you don't listen and wear logos anyway, they'll tape it over generally.

Depending on the type of show, (I know you said main cast member) on a reality show they usually ask you to describe a little about yourself and that's your opportunity to self-promote whatever you want. That being said, they do edit it afterwards obviously, so if you don't use some tact they may very well cut it out.

In regards to a main cast member, you should do as infoasian said and build your name. Promote yourself through social media and use that following to then sell, promote, etc. things.

Lets assume that I'm allowed to promote something on the show so long as it fits with the creative and or people googling my name in droves online are finding my website...then what?

Buy a domain with your stagename. Ex. yourstagename.com If someone searches you then usually your domain will come up first. Market merch on that site. Example...teeshirts, hats, phonecases or whatever. You wanted a method...its not to good but it should work.

What type of show and what is the audience? Without knowing that it is like shooting in the dark...

I know several people that were on major reality shows...they all thought they would become famous because they were promised the world...they are all now back doing bullshit jobs bartending and waiting tables...

I also know several producers who fill their heads with crap...promising fame and fortune. Reality TV just eats em up and spits them out. Much cheaper than hiring talent and producing a scripted TV series. Instead, hire people that want to be famous so bad that they will work for free. Brilliant, actually.

In general, I?d say television audiences are often a bit less technology savvy (think Bing users for example). So an idea would be, set up a company, named after your real name, that offers the service of building websites for small local business. There are lots and lots of guides on how to do this here on BHW.

Then when you join the reality show, enter the character of an ordinary likable guy, who recognizes how confusing ?The Internet? and the ?Search Engines? can be, but that your passion is to help those small businesses who do not manage to have an internet presence to get one, in a no frills easy and affordable way.

If this is your passion in life (in character, on the show), you would have a reason to incessantly refer to your company and what you do, and how you help people (keep selling your service, basically). A lot of viewers, small business owners, older business owners, would probably search up your company.

The longer you manage to stay on the show (if reality show), and the more likable of a guy you seem, the better. Free advertisement for as long as you are one the show, could bring in lots of clients if it?s nation wide with lots of viewers. Not sure how well tv viewers convert though (they didn?t turn on the show with the intention to buy something, just to be entertained).

Guess it would totally depend upon the nature of the show and their terms and conditions.
