It seems FB has been on a bit of a decline lately and people are getting tired of it.
If you were to create a new one, what would you do to make it better.
Just curious, no I'm not trying to create it :p

First thing I would add is a time limit once you've been on facebook for more then 4 hours it locks you out for the day.
Or have a new feature called Husband time control ;) My wife spends too much damn time on facebook spying on all her friends :p

In all seriousness what i think fb is lacking is more user theme control adjustments of colors things of that nature too many woman hate the basic colors/look and get rid of the ugly time line or at least let the members decide if they want it or not.

You guys do realize that most of the popular sites today started as being for fun and not for the money right? It seems that Mark never had that in plan until he noticed how big it was getting. I would make it as user friendly as possible and I would make it plain, and not having 5 HUGE updates a year. Timeline? Ticker? Nobody even seems to like it, seems like everybody liked how it used to be. I would also allow users to customize their profiles like somebody previously stated. Many people like to express themselves through their profiles.

Personally, I kinda like not editing profiles. I was never really into MySpace, but I hated going profile to profile and seeing mess after mess of people's profiles. Maybe some small edits, but I remember ridiculous colors, pictures, blinking, etc.

Ye customizable profiles and Old Easy to use Facebook Page Styles, Alongwith Old Search System as in the new search you cant seem to find anybody. Also personalized Email accounts e.g myname@facebook.com I think this one feature will make the new facebook stand out from the earlier one. Also make it black and white, so people know it is the new facebook and not actually a copy of facebook, the black and white style will also help in getting good ctr on ads and will highlight images and videos. which I think the facebook lack, as there is too much text on the page like a high school exam question paper and people hate it.

Isn't it about time for another social networking site to begin to start taking market share away from fb and eventually over take it?

No Timeline I hate that crap, I wonder how much user engagement/interaction has decreased since its been implemented.

As someone said earlier, stop changing the Dam UI so much, most people HATE change. Clearly people are being paid too much at facebook, cant stop tinkering with shit grrrrr.

If you look at FB and how their Login/likes/comments are on ALOT of websites these days i really dont think there are too many ways to better facebook. of course Facebook could be improved upon but i dont think anyone could actually make a better Social network...

Facebook now is all about the use ability so maybe things like:

    Customization of themes.
Auto Tagging (some kind of face recognition which automatically finds you in pictures and tags you.)
improved Videos searching+ user ability (they need to try and start competing with youtube)

because FB are trying to make themselves the TRUE login, im surprised that they havnt created some kind of CMS for website owners which has all the facebook features already integrated.

    1) Advertise that you don't sell your user's information for profit and openly mock them for trusting you. I'm a little disappointed that the movie the Social Network hasn't hurt ol Marky that much (that I know of).

    2) Chronological layout, none of this timeline garbage. People always complain about changes and then end up loving it, but this layout is truly awful and all over the place, IMO. They have lost their sense of simplicity. Meanwhile, google has seemed to regain it with the semi-recent youtube redesign.

    3) I think that the reason why other social media sites tend to fail, or just not come close to taking over facebook, like google plus, is that they never really preform any additional functions. What I would do if I were zuckerberg is put the focus on people sharing their own content through facebook. Remember when people used to write facebook notes?

It would be a good idea if facebook would allow people to create videos through the platform, maybe slideshows of their pictures + music from grooveshark. Another idea would be a blog, with facebook promoting you to write reviews on the latest movies/books/music you've posted about. There are so many ways that this basic idea could be implemented.

    4) Focus more on the larger community of facebook. Facebook, imo, has also failed to touch a larger audience. There are facebook groups, but I feel like nobody really pays attention to them. It's all about the people you actually know, not about your larger community of people who share interests with. This could tie into change #3, but I would definitely...try to link people together more. Maybe a feature like global chatrooms. "Talk to other people who also like The Hunger Games" etc.
