I know that a lot of you are making much more than this, but I'm making this post for the people (I know you're out there, I'm one of you) who are still looking to make a few dollars a day with adsense.

And I figured I would make my first post a nice one :)

    So here it goes:

If you're looking to make a steady 2-3$ a day you should start a proxy site and later on a proxy network. You probably know what a proxy is (BH forum after all :p) so I won't go into that...

Just use a free proxy script like PHProxy and get a free theme from freeproxytemplates (dot) com (I recommend #8) and you are good to go. Get a .info domain for a dollar and a host that would allow proxy hosting (mine's only 4 a month) and you're done...

The only thing left to do is to market your proxy. Most people submit to proxy topsites but I don't think that works very well... Instead, join yahoo and google groups for members who are looking for proxies and spam you're link a little there...

If you have any questions ask me...

Proxy sites appear to be great way to generate traffic, and very easy to set-up. What is the best way to monetize them? I know many people display Google ads, but I have a hard time believing they convert well. I'm thinking CPI/CPM would be a better route to take? Or maybe targeted affiliate ads? I'm interested in hearing other peoples input on this one.

The adsense actually converts well, I'm getting a 2-5% CTR, with some lucky days with a CTR of 10%, which is more than alot of people can say. It all depends on the placement of the ads - If you look at most proxy sites you will see that it is hard not to click on an ad ;) The problem with adsense is that you cannot put the code on 'proxified' pages, so people put cpm ads (banners and/or pop-ups/unders) on those pages. A lot of people are having success with Adversal. Try that (I'm still getting my site approved).

    Good luck!

Great post, never really thought about making a proxy, but this thread convinced me to try it out.

    Beef,

Who are you using to host your sites? I was doing this back over the summer and got busted by my host provider. :) I'd like to start doing it again, especially since I now have a "fake" proxy script to try out.

    Hey beefpuff,

Good post. Thanks for the info. About how much traffic are you getting daily? Especially unique traffic? Also how much of a load would that put on a server? I doubt there is any hosting provider that would allow a proxy based on server load alone. Just a thought. Thanks again beefpuff.

The links above are not working for me. One seems to be pointing to an expired domain, and the other 404.

    what's everyone

does anyone have any stats on the traffic they are receiving from running their proxy site? and also, does running a proxy become server intensive?
