In Illinois, the police seized several computers, and any device that could access the internet, under a warrant to attempt to find the person that was impersonating the town mayor.

The Lanham Act prohibits cybersquatting and this could be a federal civil complaint and lawsuit, but Illinois has taken the matter a step further and is attempting to make it a matter of impersonating a government official. The Fed's aslo have laws prohibiting impersonation.
