I'm gonna be buying 500 items soon (very small items but the weight would be about 20 - 30 pounds because of the mass quantity) and i'm afraid that i might have to pay for import tax (the items are coming from china through EMS) and i want to know how do i pay it? will the mailman ask for it right then and there? or would i have to go to the post office to pay for it? the item is $120 so i'm not sure if i will have to pay tax but if i do then i like to be prepared.

Depends on what the shipper in China put on the EMS form. If you do have to pay a tariff, then they will likely hold it in customs until you pay.

It is good that you've bought it from EMS. I have ordered many wholesale items in lots from china using EMS and not a single time I had to pay Custom Duty. However EMS delivery takes almost 8-10 days. If you would have ordered it from DHL or UPS then YES you have to pay custom duty. And UPS or DHL delivery person will collect it from you at your door step while delivery.

for the items as low as $ 120 you can always request your seller to mention it as "gift item" to avoid any taxes.

gift to sample as delivery helps sometimes to avoid.

normally you get a receipt from customs by mail after the delivery.

I would break it up into a few smaller packages where you do not have to risk this happening. Normally though this should still
not be an issue with customs. I have shipped about 30 pounds without an issue before.

Thinking of ordering my first batch from China and you are all recommending EMS as the shipper?

30 pounds is a lot of weight. IMO it's better to declare a small portion of the actual value and pay your tax, instead of having the china seller declaring it gift or 10-20 bucks to go under the radar and then be stopped on customs because of the weight and having a very untrustworthy story to tell, no one will believe and being asked to provide more documentation that your great supplier will never give you.
