Let's say you have a client who is willing to spend $10,000 (or some other ridiculous arbitrary number) on link acquisition. Other than just purchasing links, what would you do? What services would you try?

I would hire freelancers on odesk, that have an hourly rate of $40 and above, that have connections to tabloids, and other industry areas where they can drop in stories for you at high visibility areas (ie. business.com editorials).

I would also do banner advertising, as banner advertising do work, or else you wouldn't see so much of those on prominent forums and blogs. I know it's not link aquisition, but sometimes links do come from your visitors. This is mostly about sales. Food for thought for when you can't spend all of the 10,000 towards link acquisition.

Other ideas on link acquisition would be to buy new domains, or old expired domains, hire article writers, and put up pages to replace their contents inside. Could be cheaper than buying a single link, in some cases, and just as much link juice to be had.

odesk is an interesting idea. I've never outsources SEO work like that before, but it would be interesting to see what kind of results you got if you did.

I would second oDesk or eLance. I haven't worked with eLance, but oDesk has a handy little feature that lets you "Spy" on your workers to make sure they're actually working!

The only problem with cheap India labor is the language barrier. You can explain things as if you're talking to a 3 year old and it'll still sometimes go over their head. That being the case, if you can get them to understand, it can be quite handy.

I would definitely go for the acquisition of quality links. IMO Google seems over the last few months to have put even more emphasis on relevant links instead of quantity.

It does seem link it all comes back to links. It's good to cover all of your bases, with the directory submissions, social bookmarking, etc, but those all just supplement link building efforts. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find the time to reach out to hundreds of sites asking to buy links, especially when only 5% of them answer your emails... And it seems like there really is no good way to pay someone to do this for you.

    Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

i'd assemble a team of 50 workers with decent amount of english and ability to seo.
I'd buy 10 copies of xrumer...rent 20 servers with 100mps direct connection i would use 10 for posting and 10 for scraping forum links...I would basically then have a team of 20 constantly create web 2.0 sites and have them be put on a different management cms so i can control the posts and what not...Lol id say the rest but it would be sort of treading out on my future plans but as a fact with unlimited funds alot of intresting things can be done...Especially if you've been doing this as long as i have :)
