If you had to choose would you choose the war or carrying on with IM?

So I guess I've reached the point where I'll make a personal post on BHW, huh.

I am from a place that's pretty close to a current military conflict. I saw the writing on the wall early, left for Brazil and bought a condo here, but in the two years I've been here I have not managed to get documented. I am registered with the tax office and pay my taxes here, but the immigration office refuses to give me permission to stay unless I marry.

No lawyer wants to take the case, embassy says whatever the immigration office says is sacred and cannot be contested. So I've reached a dead end.

Because I own property here, I probably would not be able to stay illegally and under the radar like many people do around here and my two-year visa is running out without any way to extend it.

So, my options now are 1) go back where I was born and join any resistance movement, 2) try again in Carribean or some other country here in the region.

Thing is, here in Lat Am people are completely f#cking oblivious to anything that's going on outside the region because there are almost no price hikes here yet, electricity is cheap, you can live here in a lot of material comfort pretty much like before 2019. But I'm like....what for? So that I can sit on my a$$ and sell advertising space for bull#hit? I mean, why? I just have more and more doubts about the pursuit of material safety.

What would you do? How would you decide?

Since you're asking what we'd do hypothetically, i'd say NO to being deported back to a warzone. Fuck that.

Can't you gain refugee status and seek asylum there given you are an actual taxpayer at least?
I've never heard of any country where they're literally advising you to marry someone local to gain status but since you find yourself in a country where it seems they're doing exactly that... as a last resort, I would just do that.

Stay, or sell and go somewhere else.
I wouldn't fight for neither of my 2 countries.

Years ago, I spent 1 year in Brazil on a work permit. From what I know, the government & police in Brazil never persecute anyone based on someone being undocumented, UNLESS perhaps the person is involved in a crime. Moreover, you are registered with the tax office and paying some taxes too.
You said you came to Brazil from a place close to a current military conflict. Brazil does issue a special humanitarian visa for such people on a case to case basis. Get in touch with a local legal expert there about this. Wish you a safe life and success too. I fondly remember Brazilians to overall being very friendly and hospitable people.

I knew this forum will give me down to earth talk. I mean, it is, isn't it.

open a thread in WTB or HAF section with a title:
"WTB/HAF Fake marriage with a Brazilian citizen to get residency"
I am not joking bro...
And only deal with trusted forum members...
Ha. I did not think of that. Might actually do that.

All the legal experts I speak to tell me this is something that must be done via my country's consul, who told me they don't help with this.

I spoke to a lawyer from Argentina on legal Reddit and that guy told me that at least in Argentina, getting documented on humanitarian visa is the hardest ever way because you have to actually prove that you were in immediate danger - it's not like in the EU where everyone from a war zone automatically gets a refugee status - so I suppose that's why nobody wants to have anything to do with me, it's a lost cause.

Thanks for the well wishes and same to you!

Excuse me, what is shown on your picture attached?
It's a screenshot from anime "Akagi: The genius who descended into darkness" It's a gambling anime, quite good.

It's dumb easy to get residency in Nicaragua and Paraguay.
Yeah, Paraguayan ID I already have since almost a decade. Pretty bad place to actually live in right now, especially for a foreigner, and it's not gonna get any better soon.
