    I'm looking to buy a domain that was registered before and i was wondering if its age will be put down as when it was first registered years ago or will it have a brand new registery date on whois because the domain had been dropped and i am a new customer coming along to buy it.

    Thanks:eek:

    Thanks.
    What your saying is, is that if a domain is "expired" then you should still keep the old age of the domain when you register it.
    However in domaintools.com when i look up the domain is says it is "deleted" :-(
    I guess "deleted" means it is back in the registry and anyone who registers it will be in effect registering a new domain?
    Any idea how long roughly this period is between expired/expiring and deleted?

    I take it expired doesn't mean deleted or does it:rain:

    The domain lifecycle can be a bit tricky - the big registrars keep a lot of the details to themselves. Registrars are some of the ultimate blackhatters IMHO lol.

    it goes kinda like this:
    expiring->expired->dropping->redemption->dropped

    if i remember correctly, deleted is like dropped - it's gone back to the registry and is available as a new reg....so yeah you lose the history of it, but Big G doesn't de-index too quickly, so there's still some potential....sometimes.....

    PM me the name if you want me to research it further. I'd be glad to help, I been to this rodeo a few times....

    peace,
    gregs.
