What would you do if you had the resources to start up an IM career? What type of business would you run online? Create niche websites? Create an authority site and outsource everything like posts, products, etc.?

What would you do differently if you were starting over and you have a good budget to get your feet wet?

I would definitely do niche websites and allocate my resources to bringing traffic to them.

Right now I'm in a bit of a situation where I have a budget for major projects. I'm writing eBooks of my own, and plan on making authority sites in niches with exact keywords adding up to a minimum 1m traffic. I have about 10 books planned out, all in completely different niches. I'm also pushing an offline SEO company which I hope to grow. I can afford to be long-term now, as Authority sites don't happen overnight.

You bring up a pretty good question but unfortunately, it is one that is going to be difficult to answer. This is also where people often try to absorb too much information and they never really take action. By presenting this to the forum, you are essentially opening yourself up to each individual opinion. After you read through a dozen, two dozen, a hundred replies to this post and others about the topic "I have money and want to get started in IM", you will still be at the start of your journey. Best advice is to take action.

That, of course, doesn't satisfy your question and brings up another one such as "what kind of action?"

    The answer: any.

Starting capital is no good to you in IM unless you formulate some kind of plan. Many people start in IM without spending a dime!

Whatever you do, just start something. If money is no object, I would recommend investing it in real estate or some offline venture that will yield solid returns. My advice, if I could do it all again would be to avoid IM completely, stay in school, get a better paying job, etc.

Ultimately, if you are cut out for this kind of work (which can be 7 days a week!), you must be goal oriented. You have to take action. Also, if you don't know the ins and outs of the business, you will have to learn it. You will need to read, read, then re-read. You will need to figure out where you are strong and where you are weak. Then, you will know how to apply your money to provide a balance to your overall effort.

I may also ask that you edit the OP to say something a little more helpful to the other readers of this thread. Maybe make a statement like "I have read forum posts for months and finally decided to build an Adsense MNS, can you suggest how I get started? Money is no object." Or say something like "I am a writer with really good copy and would like to get started in IM by article marketing? Can someone point me in a direction to get started?" Share with others in the forum a information about what you can and can't do so we can better suggest how to go about your "plan".

This is not a flame on your post but I would sincerely like for you to first help us all by helping you. Offer us BHW members a little something about you instead of just asking for a handout. There are thousands of posts related to what you initially asked...it would be simple to just say "type it in the search bar and read more."

If you have money, and want to invest it in IM, make a plan for yourself. What do you want to get from IM? What timeframe are you talking about making all of this happen in? Do you want to earn more money by next month's end? Would you like something that you can retire on? Do you have just 2 hours a week to do IM and want to maximize your time?

Come up with a goal in mind and help yourself to take the next step...nobody is going to do it for you. Take action. Create something of your own. Scale it up. Rinse and repeat. Just when you find a method that works, move on to the next method. Don't put all your eggs in one basket - diversify your IM campaigns. Consult others on what you do and charge them. Then, develop your own products and sell those (or have others do it for you).

Remember, "you'll never know where you stand in life if you keep sitting."

you are in a field of rabbits, you can't chase them all, pick one and hunt it down.

for instance, i've tried email marketing, youtube, facebook, craigslist, niche building, and tons of other stuff, none of it worked for me. but i did find something along the way that clicked: dropshipping. for some reason i just 'got it' and i can't explain why.

and just because i failed at the methods i listed above, doesn't mean you will too. just find what 'clicks', you'll know what i mean when you do.

    Perfect advice!

That is how I got started in IM....I needed to promote my eBay business and eventually began dropshipping so I wouldn't have to carry inventory. Now, I import many products from China, Hong Kong, and Singapore and sell through 3 different power seller accounts.

Since then, I have been doing a lot of CB and Amazon affiliate marketing (even built a store in my niche). Now, I am thinking of getting into Youtube so I can better promote my products. Social networking is becoming an affiliate's dream so I have been building accounts up in varying niches.

I do a ton of organic linkbuilding (I am a people person) and as such, haven't had the need to spend money on tools. I invested in a good e-mail autoresponder, article spinner (which I seldom use now because I prefer my own copy), and a couple of paid WP themes.

I don't use SB, AMR, Xrumer because my niches do really well without these tools. They are, however, pretty fantastic each in their own right and across certain campaigns, almost essential.

I think it all depends on you, pick an are of IM that interests you and go with it, maybe its ecommerce, maybe creating your own product, maybe a MSN, maybe affiliate or CPA etc

If you're going to build an authority site, do you outsource all of your posts? Where are your favorite places to outsource high quality articles?
