Build tons of MNS?

Focus on providing Services on forums?

what would you do?

I'd pick an area and work hard on becoming and expert in that little niche.

Does not matter if you are providing services or building your own site or promoting other people's product. Just make sure you make it your aim and goal to be in the top 5% of the people in that area and you will be good.

I am working full time in IM - i'm unemployed. I work 7 days a week at it.

I focus most of my energy on creating quality content and products. I don't make much money anymore thanks to panda. I lose about $500 a month. Still though i reckon i can turn it around :o

You got things a bit wrong there - you are not unemployed, you are working for yourself!

Difference: You work for some company, you contribute to their growth, you get an average salary as the rest of the employees

You work for yourself: your personal financial growth depends on you, and in time you get outsourcers work for a fixed wage for you.

Sorry to hijack thread, my answer would be:

Short Term: Services, do what people hate doing themselves (example: Article Writing).

Long term- build a good passive income from sites you own

Effectively you want to do a bit of both if you're starting out...

Earn immediate income from short term jobs and build monthly income from sites, assets and Software IPR etc.

I wouldn't call it passive income as no IM is truly passive - it requires too much constant attention; but it is incremental semi-stable monthly income.

I work full time on IM, my advice would be to focus on just one method until you are successful at it. Most people try a method for a very short time and move on to the next and to the next one because they don't see results right away.

Patience is the key, Rome wasn't built in one day. Also, study the competiton, look at what other people are doing and make your own method with a twist.

I've been working full-time in IM for years, pretty much fully in SEO. Every once in a while I try something new that comes along, but it always gets me back and I love it :) I'm a gamer too, so now a days I just think of it as a game where I have the beat my opponents positions. Only that I get good money for doing so :D

Oh yeah, and I can freely travel and live anywhere I want to. It's getting winter here, so I'll just head off to south east asias beaches and resorts. Cheap there too

Service is the best method to have a stable income. When you get more money invest for MNS and Authority sites. These sites will be money making sites when you win SEO Game. It's better to keep in touch with both methods. Don't focus one method.

I would buy a house in DomRep and would work from there :)

Answer emails all day.

Thanks for the replies guys..the reason i asked is because i lost my job lately and have to fall back on IM..

I'm not really successful on IM..just making spare change..but probably be doing IM for a few months till I find my next job..

Get yourself into a position where passive income is possible.

The more passive income from different avenues, the happier you'll be.

Trust me, being able to take some time off and not have to worry about income,
or managing clients/employees, the better.

Keep in mind that those aren't the only two avenues either, there are many different
ways to earn on the internet.

Well, right now I'm fully dedicated to IM and studying Web Design & Development, so my life for the next 1.5 years is IM. What I'm doing, and what I would do if I had nothing right now (no income), is:

- Find someone to sponsor me with a few grand. I have done this before, and if you know someone with spare money, it's not too hard to convince them to invest in your ideas.

- Hire someone to create a new product that solves a need (e-book, software, etc...)

- Create an amazing site with a great design (this is easy for me because of my degree).

- Drive traffic both from FaceBook in the short term and SEO in the long term.

- Hire writers, link builders, etc...

$$$

Of course this is easier said than done, and it really takes a lot of skills, time & money to get something like this going. IM is one of the most complete industries that I can think of. It involves programming, managing, marketing, hiring, writing, copywriting, designing, usability and thousands other things and if you're not proficient at those, I would recommend that you start reading and a lot.
