In the past I actually asked amazon these questions and they said I had to be an affiliate of both. Hope that clears it up.
I am affiliate from both the US and the UK website and i searched a bit for it. Didnt find anything. If you click on a US link it says that you cant buy due to the address etc and it redirects you to the UK site without keepting the id tags .

You should really think of them as separate affiliate programs for separate sites. If you're building a site aimed at the US market go for amazon.com, and if you're building a site aimed at the UK market then go for amazon.co.uk. I live in the UK so I get direct deposits for amazon.co.uk and checks from amazon.com. As already stated, if a visitor tries to buy from the incorrect site they get redirect to the other without your affiliate link so you wouldn't get the commission.
If you want to build a site for both markets then you could use a script that redirects people to the appropriate amazon site based on their location so you get the commission in both affiliate programs. If you're using WordPress then you could have a look at this plugin which does the redirection for you:
You can also complicate matters even further by signing up for the Canadian, French, German and Japanese Amazon affiliate programs tooCode:hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/az-one/

So if a American visitor would click my amazon.co.uk affiliate link, I would still get the commission if he buys anything? Or do I need to put up both links? I still need to post amazon links, I haven't done it before, so these might be noob questions. But I wanted too clear this up first.
Basically, If an american clicks on your UK link and buys something from UK amazon, I would imagine you would get paid. But this will never happen.
When they get directed to USA amazon, I am of the understanding that the tracking is lost.
If you get both uk and usa traffic to your site, you need to supply a uk link AND a USA Link.
I did it with flags. Just an idea![]()
