If website has not been crawled for a month does that mean it is penlized or not necessarily?

This site was one I had not been updating at all and just had copied content on there.

I was not doing anything with it for months and decided to use it for an ai project so removed the copied stuff and just started posting ai content on there a few days ago.

I look and see the last crawl was april 17th. I have been sending occasional posts to twitter with the link but nothing else.

I also only have 7 posts on it.

Is it normal and no need for concern? Or does it look bad? I have no idea about general trends as only starting seo again after many years (nearly a decade) away.

I have started working on what should be a 'clean' domain alongside which I had only used for a cpa redirect so shouldn't have any active penalties on that one. Will be doing the same ai content for both so will be able to compare any differences.

"No I don't use it. I just check the last crawl in google's cached information."

well, it simply means that google doesn't bother to re-index your content as you hadn't updated it for ages.
Eventually, it will see that you're adding content and start recrawling.
Have you submitted a sitemap?

You can't submit a sitemap without GSC as far as I know and as I said I don't use it - no account.

Does crawling have anything to do with penalties?

Is your site indexed? Yes? You're fine.

Google crawls sites based on how regularly you change content. If you haven't made any new publications or anything, there's nothing to crawl.

Indexed but only the homepage. If google never crawls it though then it won't know if new content is there or not!

I have another site that is indexed and also crawled regularly but new pages have not indexed. The cached homepage on google shows the new posts though. So in this case it is how I would expect it - google crawls but doesn't feel like indexing yet. In the other case of no crawling even it makes me wonder.

Doesn't matter though I am trying with another domain which I didn't use at all except for a cpa redirect so I think that won't have penalties. I have started posting content on this one now as well so will see how that one goes.

I guess it is just a case of having no backlinks on any of them, except some twitter posts I did myself linking to them, and a history of not updating them until recently.

Lack of updates will slow down the crawl rate for sure, but it also depends on backlink profile. I have sites I haven't touched for a year but Googlebot still keeps crawling them because they have tons of backlinks. The ones that don't, not so much.

google has been very slow to index lately. manually requesting index in search console is best way

No backlinks except some from twitter when I have posted there and maybe a couple from pinterest.

Check it out, I have a new blog right now that has only 3 pages indexed on google but a lot indexed on Bing. It's weird.

I haven't added any Google applications yet. Related, yeah?

try writing some new content and internally link to other articles on the site and one link to a good source for more info or some examples of what you have written about .i shouldnt worry to much about the bots ,if you dont update very often they will just see your site as a static site until you starting posting regularly
