Unless they have access to your paypal password or access to the email account it is tied to, I would think that just knowing the account name is rather useless.

It depends on how far they want to go.

Someone sets up a website selling newly released movie downloads for 99 cents pointing the sales to your PayPal account - then yeah, your account will go down.

if your password is an 8 character, random uppercase/lowercase/number sequence

    that is...

    (62)^8 combinations = 218,340,105,584,896 combinations.

    paypal would notice an attack.

Happens. People use this method to kill off eBay competition like its nothing. Get a couple accounts and send someone with a decent sales volume $6 via PayPal, wait a month or two and file all of the disputes in a 24 hour time frame. Makes their dispute rating go up, their risk rating go up, and raises a red flag that can automatically freeze up an account.

This is nothing new. People will send payments for stuff with links to a MLM or Cash Scam link in the notes section and then call PayPal up directly in a week complaining that they are a scam and stole money.

anything is possible now days. I would play it on the safe side.

Paypal is not being hit as hard as it used to be. but as long as you keep your email safe and you use hard passwords you should be ok.
