Say I add around 20 video blog posts on my website, but I protect it with a membership plug-in like Wishlist, so only paid members can view it, does this protected content get indexed in Google? Does it affect my site positively in search engines? Or does the fact that it's protected and only viewable by members mess it up?

the protected content can't be accessed by google bots as it can't be accessed by the public. Google indexes and ranks only your publicly visible information on your website

If its not publicly accessed then you are good to go. If its located in perma URL then i advice you to block that page on your robots.txt file. While doing that don't block specific google bot, just block all bot's from crawling.

Just to throw on to some extra advice here, besides changing robots.txt I would also suggest if your running a mainstream CMS and this is a plugin you are using that you may want to change the footprints on it. I have found that by changing some of the plugins (Get permission first  ) names and footprints have resulted in higher rankings.

I use the Wishlist paid plug-in for Wordpress. Can you explain what you mean by changing some of the names and footprints?

If the public cannot access the content because of a service generated from a plugin then normally it will block it from Google
indexing it but to be on the safe side do like other member said here and edit your robot.txt file to reject Google.
