Hi guys,

The site I plan is affiliate site, focused on long-tail keywords, only review articles, about 100 articles, but now first page of search results is full of forums, reddit, quora, youtube.
If I don't build links, can the keywords rank on first page/top 3?

Thank you in advance!

In short term it would be okay but at certain point you would have to build links over mate .

Highly unlikely that you'll rank anything meaningful in the top 3 with this strategy. All long-tails that are easy to target have very low monthly volume and an affiliate site likely won't convert them well to begin with.

If you don't have any money to build links but you can write then your best bet would be in reaching out to different sites in your niche and offer them free content in exchange for your link. This can only work with sites with lower authority since anyone serious likely won't need your content.

Thank you for your reply.
The reason why I don't want to build a link is because I don't know how to do it, I am a 100% newbie in building links. Have you details?
Thank you.

You can post on Hire Freelancer Section For hiring someone to link building on your site , or you can avoid it by advertising on google and facebook

For some keywords that has very low competition, you can rank on top if you have relevant content, like your brand name related searches, but if there is any competition then it becomes harder to rank with just relevancy, then you need backlinks to prove your worth and online prominence for ranking better.

Yes I think As google never said build backlinks. If your content is good enough then it will rank automatically.

Just go for it, you will only learn something, and maybe make, lose or break even. Worth a shot to learn about your own ability and improve your confidence at picking winners. You have to learn to back winners, and part of that journey is starting of with the losers, so don't worry if this site doesn't make it. Just have a B,C,D... backup plan each time you try something, and be sure to be ready to adjust a strategy at a moments notice to suit a change in a niche you might notice.

I have a site with very good natural backlinks, the traffic from the pages that link to me is in the hundreds, so I'm getting traffic weekly. But the site still got tanked in an updates and down from estimated earnings of $500 to $2, lol so you never know what around the corner! However you have to build some digital asset, so you may as well start with a website. Just be sure you can hold the website for years, and don't just dump it after a couple of years cause you didn't make hundreds of thousands overnight.

Think it is highly unlikely, especially because you have to consider that aside from Reddit, Quora, etc. other affiliate sites like you will be building links.

I see you mentioned in one response you don't have any experience with link building, I would recommend checking out some of the threads on here on how to get started and ask any questions you have along the way here, you will always get someone with good advice. It will definitely be worth your effort.

If you have the budget, however, hiring an experienced freelancer (who can provide proof of work and insights to their processes and results) or an agency is a great way to go. They will have the relationships and experience to get quality results in a relatively short time.

You can definitely rank without it, especially in a niche focused on long-tail keywords. But links will help make ranking easier, the question is whether you want to spend the time

yes it will work. we do alot of sites focus on onpage SEO only and rank, its not enough. if you want to get the most of it, do link building.

Yes, I have built several sites that did not have backlinks and they get traffic.

The key is strategic internal linking.

You know what your target keywords are.

Make sure that the page that you are linking to is enhanced by the content of the page you're linking from.

It's really important to make sure that the keywords you're using actually add value and accurately sum up the content of the page you are linking to.

Ranking for long-tail keywords without link building can be challenging, especially if search results are dominated by authoritative platforms. However, focusing on high-quality content, on-page optimization, user experience, and social media promotion can improve your chances over time.

The site playbooks a interesting one, anyways seems sites are hoarding up like 1000tb site, they provide you the link and make ad money just from storage.

So yeah they don't need your content just you sharing links.

There are a lot of strategies to rank a website ,better way to see determined results are by using back links without them you need to focus on content ,social signals ,ON-page & OFF- page analysis, keywords research and more. Always make sure it has to relevant even its back links or just content.

I don't think you can make the top 1-2-3 without building backlinks; still, in 2024, backlinks are the major signal for Google. One more thing is, If on your keyword there are forums ranking, then it's hard for a website to take that place as Google recently changed the view towards Serp. Now google giving priority to forums on answers that require public opinion. As per my research.
