like if my niche is say health, what if someone gives you 5 links on TECH etc.. is it completely obvious? or is it worth it in long wrong?

Surely someone on this forum knows?

Personally, I would try to get more relevant links.

You would be better off going for relevance even if the metrics were lower. If you know the person they are coming from and could somehow control the content/anchor text and make it more relevant - say technology used for health/fitness or something - it would be worth considering. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Non relevant links can be beneficial but you should try to get a decent percentage of links from relevant sites.

A relevant link will generally be looked at more favourably and therefore give more ranking benefit but most sites with a large backlink profile will have links from non related sites.

    Depending.

I don't see ways in which we can get more links from .edu and .gov websites that easy, without some spamming in comments.

If you can get these links in a post, no matter the site relevancy, take it. It's not everyday you get to see where you can get quality links from these tlds.

But one thing i would do in your situation, is to get links from relevant websites to balance the equilibrium.

I'd spin it around to make them somewhat relevant. Tech to health - the newest heart monitor has a great <anchor text> iphone app that records your heart rate history". If its a legit link, take it, you can make up for relevance later. I have seen much worse working.

I just try to build relevant, but if I can't anything goes. Never had a problem.
