    Hi all, I have a Rapidshare search engine site.

    I set it up a few months ago, I haven't really done any SEO, and am starting to get about 30 UVs a day, guugle sends the traffic mostly.

    I am wondering the best way to monetize a site like this, I considered CS, but it's not real targeted for my current affiliate programs.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Not worth the time to set up a zango account :-/ You realize you gonna make like 1-2$ a month from this right? (this is less then the hosting!)

    I almost PM'd this to you rather than put it out in public because it might give others some ideas about getting into the dl search market, but there's nothing revolutionary here. It's just twisting something that's publicly available here already and it'll actually involve some work and thinking (although not a LOT) so most people will probably just ignore it. :)

    "Thank you for your search. We're glad to help you find [search string].

    Here's how you can help us:
    Click THIS LINK and pop in your email address. Please come back here and enter the 2nd word in the third paragraph on the page after you hit submit. This helps us pay the bandwidth bills and keep this page free."

    <input box>
    <submit button>

    Ok, so the text sucks. Maybe offer them a freebie (as if their search just happened to be the 100th of the day or some shit.) I don't know, that's just 2 minutes worth of brain farting there, but you can come up with something killer I'm sure to motivate them to do it.

    Anyway, I'd also add:

    -validation code to prevent them from guessing
    -an offer rotator to keep from burning up any single zip/email offer
    -a meta-refresh and referrer checking***
    -A counter or randomizer so that x% of people don't have to actually submit an email address. They just click the link and pick a word off the first page. This will keep your conversion rate down by having x% of clicks without conversions (sorry to state the obvious, but some people might not have understood that.)

    *** If the referrer doesn't blank out, you bounce them out to a squeeze page of your own with the second meta-refresh. Get their email address yourself so you can sell them something on the back-end later. How? You have their search string (the RS file they were looking for). Just put a simple landing page that says "Interested in finding out more about [search string]? Just enter your email address and we'll have one of our specialists get back to you as soon as we can. We never ever spam anyone, we really promise." This is basically going to be mostly junk because they'll all be looking for something different, but you never know when such things might come in handy. A list is a list after all. :)

    Good luck with it. It probably won't make much (people are too lazy to do stuff like this unless there's sex involved) but even 1 or 2 conversions a day at $1.50 each makes this worth doing imo since you really don't have to do anything else but leave the site alone.
