Maybe this is not unique but it came to me about an hour ago.

My wife is an OUTSTANDING cook and often has her laptop on the kitchen counter with a recipe on it as she is cooking... tonight it is Chicken Cacciatore she is making.

I said, "Do you think it would be helpful if we bought an Ipad and hung it on the wall so you could read your recipes instead of taking up counter space?".

She thinks this is a great idea and would make her life easier.

So, spend some of your cash on an idea like this and make your wife's life easier.

Tomorrow I will be doing just that.

Just in time for the iPad2's announcement/release (which I think is 3/11/11 - may be worth waiting for instead of buying tomorrow - :))

Can you network those things? That way you can send her a message that says ... bring me a bacon sandwich woman!

    sitting at my PC
I've actually kept an old pc in the kitchen for several years now with a small 15" monitor on the counter. Not much on it besides a bunch of weblinks on the desktop to various recipe websites and a few folders for saved recipes. With so many recipe websites on the internet you really don't even need traditional cookbooks anymore. (although my wife still has some of those as well. lol)

She finds a hell of a lot of GREAT recipes online though. Last week we had Apple Cherry Slow Cooker Porkchops. Complete porkchops and stuffing meal cooked in the crockpot. Best most tender porkchops I've ever had. lol

Plus while you're in the kitchen you can watch the cooking videos on youtube and other sites while you're cooking the meal. When you feel like it you can also just stream tv shows and movies on sites like hulu, or listen to internet radio stations.

The ipad would be cool too, especially since you could keep the grocery list on it and just take it to the store with you. But it's nice to have at least the 15" monitor, I've even thought about switching to a 19" just cause my eyesight isn't what it used to be. lol.

The dedicated pc takes up way less counterspace than a laptop would. I've thought about mounting the monitor on a pull out rack to the bottom of the upper cabinet to free up the counter itself completely, but just havent bothered. PC is in the cabinet and the monitor by itself doesn't really take up much space, even the keyboard isn't too bad, but sometimes she'll just leave the keyboard tucked away and bring up the onscreen keyboard and just use the mouse. You're ipad idea actually gives me an idea to start watching on ebay for touchscreen monitors. They come up for pretty cheap sometimes. :)

So portability is the upside of using an ipad (and coolness factor, but most of your friends & neighbors will think even just a dedicated kitchen pc is pretty cool. lol), but screen size is the biggest upside of using an old pc. (plus the cost is $0 if you have an old pc laying around.) Even a PIII and win98 would be good enough, but I'd recommend at least P4HT and XP just cause it'll be a bit faster. Plenty fast enough for anything you need to do for kitchen use. It's not like you're going to be gaming on it. :cool2:

I got your point, and my opinion is that this is a tricky way to invest in your benefit as well. By doing that, sure, you make your wife's cooking session more easy and enjoyable, but in the same time, her productivity will increase, as well as you hot meals :D served on the table every single day! ^_^

A simple example that can show that you can always make a gift to your beloved one, under a pretext of a cause. But even if that is really just for a cause, it's still a gift. And even if that's just a gift, there's still a cause. So, it's a win-win :)

(Guys don't hate me for bumping this as the thead is quite oldie, but there's nothing wrong in bumping a thread about an idea like this; it's not like bumping an old method $ thread.)
