I have an idea for an online project, might not even generate money it's just something that I think might help a lot people. The problem is I have no coding skills and wouldn't know where to begin with it, and I'm afraid that if I tell someone they might just go and do it themselves. How can I safely find partners? how can I protect my Idea??

    Hire a freelancer

Someone might steal your idea but if they are a programmer on a site like freelancer or upwork they won't know how to sell it

Ideas are a dime a dozen, everyone has "the next killer idea" in their heads. It is the implementation of that idea that makes it in this world. The best thing you can do is create a detailed design document and attempt to break the idea into compartmentalized parts. After that, you can get help for each different part, from different people, without needing to divulge the entire project. However, if you can't even be arsed to create a detailed and well thought out design document, you will never do anything but brain-fart ideas that go nowhere. I know that sounds harsh, don't take it personally and internalize it. It is just sound advice from an actual programmer.

Nobody wants to steal your idea. They just want to get paid for the coding work they bang out and move on. If you're really paranoid about it, talk to lawyers and build contracts.
But look at it this way. Lets say you do hire someone to make your idea and not steal it. Nothing stops someone from cloning your project when it's public and putting in twice the marketing effort.

I can't remember who it was it someone once told me that the best thing you can do with an idea is get it out there - otherwise you never really know if it's any good.

If it really is that easy that anyone can steel it then it's not really worth anything anyway. As someone above said, ideas are ten to the dozen.

Having the balls to back an idea with time and/or money is a totally different matter.

I guess you either need to learn yourself and do it slowly, get someone to lend you some cash or do a JV with a developer - I don't know if we still have a public JV section here...?

You can have the developer sign a NDA and assure him of the mutually agreed upon $...

or do as suggested by fellow members by posting it on Upwork
