First of all, kindly all note, this is NOT a thread to sell or asking for Identifies

I am just asking, many websites says its illegal to sell such information of identify (name, address, ssn, dob ...etc) and I believe it really is, as far as I know in my origin (UK) this is totally illegal and in US too (I thought)
A while back my company wanted to hire someone from US living in ME (where I am now), we wanted to run a background check and asked a friend who told us we would do so via xxxxxx.com (don't know if it is ok or not to reveal the name, would do if a mod said its ok) for something like $35, I didn't beleieve it, so we tried it, gave the website the ssn, first and last name given by that person, paid the fees and asked some shit question, and, pingo, we were able to know even his neighbors names!!!!!

I am 100% percent this isn't allowed in EU as well as US, how such sites operates? the domain and hosting are both US based, the sites seems legit and have some credits ... a couple of hours I found another site which sells the same way for a cheaper price, too, another one which sells any ID (FULL report) in the United States for as low as 5 bucks
I am really confused and 100% unable to understand this, it should be illegal, right? is it legal? illegal? how do these sites operates??

I'd sell my wife's ID for a cent if its legal :D

Well did the site give you their SSN? If not than it's fully legal, that's all public information. You can open a local phone book and find the same information.

The site gave me some basic information, but when I wanted to make a FULL background check, it asked for: ssn and last name, I filled both and got a confirmation message to pay, paid and got a detailed report with EVERYTHING, including the ssn, dl, dob, m.m.n ....etc
the other site asked for just a first, last name and a state, pay, then it revealed all info (including ssn)
the 3rd one is something !!!!!!!! you just choose how many identify, the state, define names (if you like) pay and get (the very same report, with ssn)

From how I understand it, you inputed the SSN when you ordered, therefore OF COURSE it will be on the report, you filled it in - they're gonna give you every field they can, even the information you gave them when you ordered, just to make it look more "comprehensive"... You never said whether the one where you didn't supply the SSN gave you their SSN....

Background checks are legal, selling identities IS NOT.

    1: The information isn't reliable
2: You and they breach the data protection act in many countries
3: If you spent half an hour on google you could find that information yourself.

    1. As far as I compared both their report and the applicant application, I think you are wrong, they have 100% reliable info
    2. This is what I am asking about her, how they can conduct such acts if illegal?
    3. guide me through Google how you would find someone's SSN, Driver License, DOB ....etc in 30 minutes and I am sure FBI would be here in less than 10 minutes, at Google's head branch as well :D

i use a service like this that government agencies use too. we pay a flat monthly fee plus extra. the info is very reliable. you do need a "permissible purpose" though for searching. i can find out anything about someone. my permissible purpose is to find people that have skipped town provided they signed a document authorizing me to do so. i can find their parents, relatives, criminal records, voter records, assets like houses and cars, cell phones, accident records, etc. this is a little above and beyond "public information". for strictly public info you do not need a purpose and it is totally legal.

It is illegal in the UK but not the US. Well, it's illegal to give street address, but that's it.
I work for a text messaging company where at times we have to do lookups for our customers and we serve the UK too.
