I received a letter from the ICO "apparently" concerning spam sent by me via sms / email, in relation to income access. Well I have never sent Sms messages or emails, so was wondering of the legitimacy of this letter, or if it is just off some desperate chancer prick looking for information on my websites. Has anyone else come across this recently.

Is the letter asking you to contact them or threatening action?
Could be a competitor trying to wind you up or somebody trying to stitch you up/Identity theft etc
Check everything on the letter matches the website, logo, address, tel no:s, emails etc.

Not sure it was posted to my address in the UK. My mum just sort of went through it. They seem to want details about my business. But I have never sent SMS. Neither has there ever been a significant spike in traffic where some arsehole could be trying to set me up. All seems strange to me. The email address on the letter is @ico.org.uk though. I would have laughed it off if it would have been [email protected]

I would write back to state that you are not involved in any form of SMS Marketing and that you are currently out of the country.
Might even be worthwhile to have a Solicitor draft it up as you don't really want them to carry out an investigation and the Solicitor should know what's safe to disclose.
