Earlier today, an Ice Cream Truck came through our neighborhood, and within a few minutes there was a crowd of almost 20 customers.

That got me thinking...Assuming they own the Truck, their only expenses would be the Gas, and Ice Cream, right? Is the Ice Cream business lucrative?

if they own the truck it could be quite profitable, however, there are only a few months of the year that they're making this profit. Unless you own an ice cream shop as well I don't see how it could be worth it. Well, maybe if you have a different full time job that has summers off.

If you add some weed for sale to your truck menu your profits skyrocket!
Think outside the ice cream box!

don't forget the human resources too. :D unless you are doing it all yourself, normally i guess they hire one person to drive the truck, and another to handle ice cream refilling and serving the ice cream to the customers.

but i know some places, the person driving earns commission based on how much ice cream they can sell that day.

I dont think these guys make much at all. I cant be sure but cmon, you would have to sell alotta ice cream to CLEAR even $100 day. After gas, van, freezers, and ice cream stock I cant imagine there is too much left on a $1.50 sale. But damn if you wanna make 30k a year and work for yourself, I guess its not too bad.

I could be way off on this but I am seeing WAY fewer Ice cream trucks than I saw 10+ years ago, so I assume its not staying very profitable. Oh and I live in a place that is warm almost all year long.

Duncan Banatyne who is now a multi millionaire with many businesses started of as an ice cream man and was making so much he expanded his business. Also depending where you live you dont have to just sale ice cream from your van.

Screw the truck/van....get a scooter. Guy in my area has this scooter/moped setup towing an ice cream cart from it, has a small generator powering the freezer on it. I've talked to him out of curiosity...gets around 70 miles to the gallon with it...he just can't get over 25mph. Works great for the tourist area I live in...especially since its rare to be able to go faster than 25mph during the summer anyways.

I see guys selling smokies downtown at lunch hour or after the bar out of little carts and even in front of our Canadian Tire and Future Shop stores and they seem to do good business. Probably only a few hours a day of work.

You gotta sell a lot of cream to make a good living. Would suggest you just hit up vacation spots in the summer.

I used to do it. Used to make over $7k profit per week. Had a huge van and sold snow cones, hard ice cream cones, smoothies. I'm talking a big van with music on the road, the soon to be ex-wife and I. Then the gas prices started to hike and we just got tired of the whole thing.

Regarding selling popsicles and smaller ice items, you don't need a generator. Plugin the freezers overnight and you can sell many hours without a generator. Obviously get things in/out fast and don't leave it open. I used to do this too but upgraded to selling bigger, more profitable items.

I knew a guy who used to employ 4 guys working corners of downtown Nashville selling only bottled water for $2 a pop. Guy would make daily $1,500 profit after he paid the guys and for the water. All he needed was approval by the city.

I saw the same thing in Vegas recently. In the posh hotels a bottled water is $4 US so some guys brought in some cheap cases of it and sold it on the street for like 1$.

Frankly, I would never pay for bottled water since its been found to be identical to your tap water without the plastic empties problem.

I bring my kids INSIDE when he comes to our street lol....Besides you can buy BULK at our local GFS for 1/10th the cost of his for the same shit ;) Go to the source...

lol reminds me of the old days of bringing money to the park and waiting for the ice cream man on a really hot summer day...i can see how you can make boatloads of money, but like the most successful things in life, you have to target correctly and in large volume
