Ok so I received a check of over $4200 in the mail and it came with a letter that says I've won over $250,000 but to receive all of it I need to go to my bank take $3500 out of the check and call some 1-888 number for further payment instructions. Is this real? The check seems very real but I don't see how this happened.

OMG are you serious, you will cash the check, send them the extra money and then the check will get denied several days later. Giving the sender the money and leaving you to pay the debt with the bank.

Are you serious? If so I vote taking away your Jr.VIP status

i hope you are joking.

call the fbi immediately and turn the check in....call the bank that the check is written from and let them know what is going on. hopefully they can catch those nigerian fuckers. i have spent many nights tracking them down...

You need to shut up. This is a first for me and I was pretty sure it was a scam.

lol! you should know, if you didnt bet on any lottery then its obviously a scam

This company informs you that you have won a lottery through North American Utilities. They send the letter with a check which you are meant to deposit into your account in order to pay the taxes before claiming your prize and asks you to call in order to get more information on getting your prize money. My guess is that once you call they will tell you to deposit the check then promptly write a check to the company holding your prize money and mail it to them - the scam comes in when you have already mailed them a check and you then find out that their check which you deposited into your account was not good and now you have mailed them your own money! This scam may be targeting seniors - BEWARE!

Dont bother cashing it... Your bank will cash it and it will bounce in a week thats why so many people fall for it, cause they go to the bank and once they have that cash in their hands they get excited.. but you will end up paying a fee for cashing it not them.

Cut it up like they stated ^

419 scam coming your way, wait till they ask you to send them other money so they can get you the rest. Nigerian scam old as the hills

I keep trying to make that Nigerian send a little money to me. :D

thanks snowwhite. bebop, theres no need to say his jvip should be taken away. scams work because they fool people, heck i reckon i will still get fooled by scams once in a blue moon, im only human, sometimes greed takes over all logical thinking. Sometimes we just fool ourselves because we want to believe that these scams are not scams.

But yeah, dont give your account details or credit card details to anyone you dont know or trust and you will be fine ;) (i cut up my credit card a while a go now, never getting one again)

Cashing that check is a disaster waiting to happen.

I'm with Jammie on this one. Cash the check... and just let it ride. 99.9% chance its fake, but who cares? As long as you have the balance to cover it... just pop it in your account and hope it stays.

Obviously never send them (scammer) anything back. Just to the bank, cease communications and cross fingers :)
.

IF you have a extra 30 dollars to find out if its real, cause thats the average overdraft fee. I doubt I would spend 30 bucks to find out if a check is fake. Especially when so many people have told me it was

I'd pee on it a lil and return it. Then again it's probably a fake address.
