I will be 30 next 2 months, i made a lot of mistakes in my life but thank God i have been able to define my path.

When i was growing up i use to have great love for music and can sing too but unfortunately, i was too shy about it as well as procrastinated about the whole thing. Today am almost 30 and feel too old to get started especially when i see young guys and girls choking the music industry. If i were to go ahead, at 30 am i still ok but starting at 30 kind of look insulting to me.

I still wake up in the middle of the night, with great music in my mouth and heart, it's that kind of gifted thing.

Am currently trying to invest in been a producer and groom young kids.

Can i still sing for 2 to 4yrs?

The music industry is sort of a lotto drawing .. not to kill your dream. You can do anything. But if your doing it to become famous you have the wrong mindset, you're asking us if its okay do to music still. If music is what you like to do ... do it. You're never too old.

I was told you can do both. Learn to play an instrument like the piano you'll develop your voice further and pick up a useful understanding of vocals in music as a whole, putting you above a lot of the media ready studio music.

Bro, I feel you on that man. Money is what is blocking us. You can do both man, but you can't talk and listen at the same time. So, choose one to start off with, once you know and learn to manage time then you can do twice but can't do it simultaneously. Look man, you're 30. You shouldn't have that type of mindset dude. I love music as well, I want to produce beats for fun with FL studio... You have to do the things that you don't want to get to place that you want or sometimes people is just lucky man.

Do it! You're 30 listen to yourself. If you have talent and passion you can build up your own following online. Or take a shortcut and go on American Idol etc

I clicked this because I had no idea was 'RnB' was. Until I started reading and realized it was R&B.

If you've got the talent, go for it. There are plenty of shy people who sing. I do not want American Idol, but I remember hearing a story about the guy Scotty and that he is a quite person. Not sure though - just what it said.

But yeah, your next best thing is encouraging other talent and people who may have the same fears.

Thanks for bringing that out though. It shows the community aspect of BHW and what we all appreciate.

really even if he's called gay all over the net, he's got talent

Well the answer is simple if you read this. I was a DJ for 9 straight years, best of my life and i quit because some big shit that happend in my family. I started again 2 years ago and i feel already like a new man (btw i have 34). IMO music is a drug, if someone is passionate enough he will never EVER get rid of it no matter what, so i have just 1 thing to say. GO FOR IT. If you promote urself online ( ur on BHW and this will not be a problem) then i think things will go in the right way for you. SO GOOD LUCK.

Haha maybe rephrase that last bit about grooming young kids! On a serious note, do what makes you happy, and have no regrets.

From a realistic stand point Yes! you can BUT! only if you have the total package and you really need to force the issue at this point in time and what I mean that is this if you want to sing and making singing your profession get in the studio knock out a album in like 6 months and force the issue by doing shows and make sure you can perform just singing won't get you in the door anymore since there soooo many people trying to be stars. If nothing else try to be a songwriter, they get crazy paid if you have time shoot me a demo I'm not diddy or jayz but i can toss it a few places and see if anyone bites. If it's up to standard and to there liking.

Two words. Susan Boyle. If she could make it, anyone can. Follow your dreams. You only live once. If it's meant to be, it will happen no matter how old you are.

Talent doesn't have much to do w/ the music industry TBH. There's millions of great singers out there, only a handful that are marketable.

To the OP: You could start local at bars and whatever, establish somewhat of a fanbase via the internet (should be easier for you than most artists, given your line of work), collaborate with other artists thru the net, etc, but the chance of being a successful musician is not real high man...I don't need to tell you, but every one and their mom wants to be a famous artist and it's not very realistic for most people - mostly a lottery like one of the first guys said ^^

Eminem is 40 (41?) now... he wasn't super famous until roughly 10 years ago.
