I was ranked #10, but now I'm not even in the first 100

I haven't used any blackhat methods I don't think.. I've been making 3-5 blacklinks per day. articles/forums/blog comments etc.

It's an article I'm trying to get ranked #1

I published it just over a week ago (11th June) it was ranked #12 a few days after, and then it ranked #10.

I check today and it's not even indexed, is this google dancing, or something else?

It's a form of Google dance. Another name for it is (temporary) Google love. Any new relevant websites get ranked up there quickly...but for only a week or so. This makes sense because any recent news stories that might apply to a keyword would be relevant reading.

Ezinearticles especially get the boost because they're an authority site.

If it's temporary, how long is it going to be normal? Wayer said that it is not even indexed... How come it happens for white hat...? Something missing...

You can't really gauge Google by looking at what happens 1 day. This could be the Google dance. It also could be Google pushing your article to the bottom because it found something more relevant.

Keep making backlinks... It will come back... as biks suggested google dance or love is issue, considering you haven't done anything shady over there...

Don't expect ranking to be in a week unless you got site like ezine :) It will take time depending upon competition....

    Google dance!

Seeing as I cannot see your site, just make sure EVERY page is optimized (relevant to page content) with H1 on EVERY page, unique title, and meta for EVERY page. An innerpage link on EVERY page, and some IBLs coming into EVERY page from a different, highly ranked (PR) and relevant source.

Follow the basics above and you will pop back up. But it will take time.

All good info for a site, but OP is talking about an article ;)

Just keep building backlinks... Or make a new article and that one will pop up high again

Just outa interest, why go to all this effort on an article and not a site?
Just write a new article and submit to the best article sites - they usually hold first page for a good few hours/days

Yeah I see this all the time on my new sites too. Sometimes you stick around, sometime you disappear. Continue building backlinks and you'll eventually get back up there. If you have the time to build more than 5 backlinks a day you should because Google allows more than 5 to be built per day.

continue building backlinks from variety of places and include do-follow and nofollow links. make the process as natural as possible and you should be fine again.

Sometimes the high ranking is really temporary because Google thought it was relevant to current search trend (hot trends ..) If that trend backs off, it puts your article back to where it thinks it should be, based on other metrics.

I am not sure in this case, but that has happened to me quite a bit.

Keep building links it will come back down and stay there.

Was the article content appropriate for what you were attempting to rank in?

Yes, it's a long tail keyword with zero competition. Only gets 720 global searches per month, but it is very targetted.

My article and keyword is very relevant for what I'm trying to rank in. I jus don't understand why I went so far down in the rankings.

I'm trying to get a bunch of articles ranked in the top 3 before I make my own website. (Think it's known as the bum marketing method on here?) I'm pretty new to the SEO world so just getting a feel for it at the moment.

Has anybody tried this method before? success/failure?
