What does going up in the search rankings have to do with getting back at google?

I don't think you have read the article. It's just been on the news in the UK and Google were branded 'unethical' with business approach and tax affairs. I was going to get out of the 'unethical' approach to ranking etc.. But if it's good for them, it's good enough for me.

Google pays enough in taxes to the UK. They have local branches, they employ a lot of people, each and every of those pays taxes, and Google is the one who supplies money for those taxes. You can't keep milking them in the name of ethics.

    From the Financial Times :

Margaret Hodge, who chairs the public accounts committee, accused the technology group on Thursday of using "smoke and mirrors to avoid paying tax" because, she said, the company undertook sales in Britain, as well as Ireland.

Ms Hodge said Google was not living up to its original motto of "don't be evil".

She told Matt Brittin, Google's vice-president for sales and operations in northern Europe: "You are a company that says you do no evil and I think that you do do evil."

Ed Miliband, the Labour leader said: "People will be shocked by the evidence that Google is going to extraordinary lengths to avoid paying their fair share of tax."

They are trying to avoid paying tax, end of story...

There is nothing wrong with reducing the amount of money you pay in taxes. And its not even evil, the polictians are just going after google and claiming its evil to follow world wide tax laws,so that they can get more popular in the polls the next election season.
