    Hi Shanlini,

First of all you need capital of at least 20k-50k USD to start up a poker room. There are 2 options:

    a) Stand alone poker room- You need much more money. The software is between 20k Euro till 150 k. You need servers. You need license from tax heaven place such as Malta,Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Costa Rica, Cyprus etc. Such gambling license could cost you about 100k per year.

    b) It is more cheap option but how I mention above you need 20-50k USD. It is white label version. You are joining to a network such as "Cake poker network", Ongame network, Everleaf gaming etc. You are using their license and software, but poker room is branded according to your wishes. The revenue share is 50/50 or 60/40. You just make marketing of your room.

    I hope that helps

    Cheers

Well option B is doable, but you need money to invest and really good marketing plan to follow. Here in Bulgaria we have one such white label poker room, which is successful. Most important thing is to choose reputable and trusted poker network. Then Money to invest and marketing plan. There is nothing impossible.

    Cheers

You need to get a domain that the u.s. doj cannot seize by court order. They can seize .com and .net since they ultimately come out of the u.s. A cctld from cyprus is probably the best bet.

If you are a US citizen I suggest you find a different business to start.

Even if you aren't a US citizen do a search for something like "DOJ shuts poker sites" to get a small idea of what you are getting into.

    Good luck

I thought it was only US residents that couldn't operate poker sites. So does that mean that us citizens are limited to what they can do overseas even if the other country allows it?

You'd be better starting a physical one! Would require a lot less capital!! :)

Yea, there are a lot of certifications and design work needed for a Random Number Generator needed to run an honest operation.

I hate to break it to you, but you need like $100k just for the cert and the design of the RNG. Good luck.

The US government has been very aggressive against poker sites.

IIRC they jailed a UK citizen who was on a flight to Costa Rica that got diverted to the US.

Also, IIRC the latest sites shut down were hosted outside the US and owned by non-US citizens.

I am not a lawyer & I don't remember all the details of the shutdowns but anybody wanting to get into that business needs to do a lot of research IMHO.

Unless you have a nice amount of dough dont bother.

As said above it may cost you an arm and a leg and there is no guarantee that you will get lots of people depositing money and playing and your site :)

The share between the poker room and the poker network is not any close to 50/50 or 60/40

Most of the time its 80/20 in the favour of the poker room.

However, joining any network requiere about 50k USD.
The cheapest network you can join is everleaf, but it doesn`t convert really well, however, unless you have some big balls and big wallet, stay away from that industry :)

They were arrested because they were advertising in the us. I find it ironic that the us likes to promote how "free" it is but they do crazy things like arresting people over poker.
