I know you can't have someone famous as your domain name, but I was wondering if this applies to sub-domains?

So if I had a site:
    willsmith.com - not allowed
    willsmith.mywebsite.com - allowed?

Also if i used an auto blog that had say 26 famous people or companies and i used them all under one domain each as as a sub-domain would that cause a lot of problems?

Sry if this is a retarded question....

You would still be using his name or likeness without compensation or permission. I am not a lawyer, but I don't think it would matter if you used his name as a domain or subdomain.

Check googles blogger and see if anyone is doing it there. I doubt this is a legal issue that is settled, but most likely you would fall under the radar. Make sure you leave a contact page and if anyone asks you remove them, then id suggest you do that rather than risk it.

I think the main thing is that you can't make money by using his name without an agreement.

You can until the lawyers ask you to take the site down or give up the domain name.
