There's no need to remove spam backlinks as they don't play any kind of a role in your rankings. Matt Cutts has repeatedly stated that Bad Links can't affect the rankings of a website in a negative way simply because the owner of the website can't control who links to him.

If that was the case, make a website with 1 backlink from squidoo, and anchor viagra with scrapebox and spam the competition to the top :)

Don't worry about it, from my testing, all they can do (auto approve porn scrapebox list for example) it get you to dance a lot, but after a while you pretty much either go up or stay the same in ranks.

Spam links don't work, but what do are the broken links that are found on your site. Remove those and you will see that the SE likes you then. I started working on removing the spam from my site, got fed up and just quit before i really began.

The only way to do that would be to contact the admin of each site responsible for linking to you to remove them. Ruling that out, the links are staying I'm afraid.
If you got sandboxed for excessive backlinking, chalk it down as a lesson learned, and start over with a new domain.

Just ignore the spam backlinks and focus on building quality ones, that's what matters to get high position in SERPS.
