Does eHost support the use of SSL Certificates? I saw nothing about that on their site, so check that first.

You could ask your provider if they offer letsencrypt certs, which come in handy and are free.
If your provider gives you a plesk controlpanel and allows you the use / isntall of plesk plugins you could try the letsencrypt plugin for plesk,
and run free domain vaildated certs on autopilot.

Afaik SSL certificates have nothing to do directly with your name server.

Your SSL certificate need to be "installed" on your hosting. Normally you would add your private key, the cert and a CA cert to the server that delivers your page.

    2 Common setups for example:

Domain and hosting on same provider:
    1. Get a cert
    2. install private key cert and ca cert on your hosting
    3. set up your hosting to delivery ssl on your ip
    4. make your page redirect all non https request to https (by a htaccess for example)
    5. ?????
    6. Profit

Domain and hosting on different providers:
    1. Map your domain to the nameserver of your hosting provider
    2. do step 1 - 6 from above

Delivery time should not be an issue. If you receive a lot of request you should consider to move to a more robust hosting and not a 3 bucks a month shared hosting. But that's a hole other thing...

As roki4ka said, go with the Cloudflare free plan.
I'm using it for most of my moneysites and it works great!

If your hosting provider allows you to install 3rd party SSL Certificate then I have good experience with cheapsslshop.com They got very effective price, and good team who stood with me at the time of installation process on cPanel.
