Upgrade to a decent sized VPS or cloud setup. If you're getting 30k uniques it's time to upgrade to a real server.

What is your monthly budget? Managed or unmanaged VPS? Can you deal with plain SSH or you need a control panel like Kloxo or CPanel?

Get a cheap dedicated server or a VPS. You can get a decent managed dedicated server for around $150. In the webhostingtalk-forum you can find good deals, just do some research on the host before you choose them!

20 k hits is nothing. I have plenty of clients doing that, thats 750 a day or less than 1 hit per minute! If you keep getting excessive cpu, check your script -- it sounds like your script may have some poorly written queries or other problems -- I am assuming your running WP. Try one of the cache plugins such as w3 total cache, see if that helps. good luck

If he meant 30k a month... yes, any host will do that.

but if he meant 30k a day..... then dedicated is what he needs.

but high cpu means something is working the server... check that out.

    some plugin gone rogue...

What scripts you running exactly that caused such high CPU load? Are you using Wordpress by any chance? If so, you should really consider using a caching plugin if you aren't already, it helps tremendously with the CPU usage of WP. Something like WP Super Cache.
