Today is the day after my birthday. I've decided to start up a bit of a journey and see where it goes.

I want to try to find, sell, and use expired domain names.

I've been running my scrapebox nonstop and have decided to read up on what to look for and what to step away from. It's time to register some domains!

I've got a pretty dense list and a majestic account, as well as an AHREFS account.

I am filtering my list Nargil style -
TF-DA-REFCount-Market1-Market2

  • My algo = TF>5 (Majestic)
  • DA = Reasonable but less important (Moz)
  • REF Doms>10 (Ahrefs)
  • Subnets=Reasonable compared to Ref Does (Ahrefs)

I've found several good ones... I think.

Questions I have -

  • Should I exclude all TLDs except for .com,.net,.org ? I see a lot of good .jp for instance, as well as co.uk and other uncommon ones.
  • Am I missing some metric from the posts I've read?
  • Should I be using Estibot for anything?
  • How do I find my first buyer? I don't mind selling for less to resellers if it means I am learning what is viable in the process.
As soon as I have enough posts, I'll also be posting tools/bots I write to make this easier as I go. I think it might be helpful for others on the same path as me. I'd also like to post lists I've scraped and grabbed the metrics for with domains I can't use, but I worry I am not accurately appraising them right now and might pass on something I regret later.

Any suggestions, please send them my way! I'll update at least twice a week or as things happen.

Congratulations :)

Here are my 2 cents for your questions.

“1 word” domain name with any TLD registration can sell but other than that it is probably best to stick to.com domain names. And.net if it is really good.

Estibot is not at all accurate so disregard it.

Hope that your customers use estibot and believe in it though :)

Find buyers. You can list your domain names on sedo, afternick, flippa but it can unfortunately take a long time before anyone place an offer…

Think about what a big company or someone with a lot of money would be interested in when you buy domain names.

The shorter the name the better. Under 15 words preferably.

Good luck or your new Journey.

Thank you VERY much for taking the time to reply. Wouldn't PBN expired domains with good metrics be easier and faster to sell?

No problem :)

Domains that have been part of a PBN can be dropped by the owner because of a penalty.

If not, then it depends on what your customer buys the domain name for.

If people buy domains for their PBN, then the links pointing to the domain and its authority are what they are after.

But you can't expect to sell a domain name for much if your customer buys it to use it in their PBN.

But businesses constantly buy domain names for $10k plus, and even 7-figures if the name is what they are after.

Ah, I understand, so with PBN domains it would be a numbers game. For domains for businesses, would it matter to them if they have good metrics or a blank slate?

PBN is a private blog network that is used to send links to money sites to increase search engine ranking.

So internet marketers buy expired domains with link juice pointing to them, that they can pass on to their money sites.

So if someone buys a domain name for that purpose, they only care about its age, links pointing to it and maybe if it is relevant to their niche.

If you buy domain names to sell them for profits then your ideal customers will be businesses or people with a lot of money, who really want your domain name.

In that case, it doesn't matter what matrix it has so long as it doesn't have a high spam score (if they even know how to check for that).

You can check out Namebio(dot)com or other sites like that, to see what some domains sell for and get an understanding of what type of domain names tend to sell.

You can also look at sedo and other domain name auction sites and study their market place and see what types of domains tend to get sold for a lot of money.

I hope that helps:)

If you look at the domain names that sell for 6 or 7-figures they are almost always .com and he wants to sell domain names.

You can sell .net and .org but.com tend to be the most valuable.

Use SEO tools and analyze backlinks or RD before buying

Happy belated birthday I'll be turning 49 on the 13th myself

Good luck OP

Thanks for the well-wishes!

@Almighty Pull - can you share a guide on how to do this?

I'll cover what I did today as an example for you. Maybe it will help, and I'll be corrected by those who know more. :)

Today I woke up to scrapebox expired domain finder giving me about 16,000 expired domains. It had a busy night, and I had a busy morning since my son decided kindergarten wasn't for him. After a cup of tea, it was time to sort.

Sidenote for scraping:
  • I take a pdf book and converted it to txt
  • Randomize putting 1-4 word(s) on each new line using Atom
  • Filtered out lines with weird characters from the conversion with regex
  • Used that as a seed to scrape more keywords with scrapebox
  • Randomized keywords with scrapebox, and trimmed the size of the list to what I think I would reasonably use and a bit more.
  • Scraped urls with scrapebox based on the wordlist. I'm using stormproxies backconnect proxies to scrape.
  • Trimmed out any .jp, .ru, .gov, .au, and other tlds that require citizenship or tax id.
  • When I have my URL list I send it through my Godaddy filter bot to remove anything that I didn't catch before and leave me only domains I can register (I use the bot to make it faster, but you can use the bulk domain search for this as well.)
  • Sent my list through Majestic, filter based on TF and retained some metrics for use later (TF Topics, TF Topics score, Languages of Ref)
  • Sent it through ahrefs using my bot (you can just use the 200 limit bulk search) and filtered based on ref dom
  • Checked the backlink quality and filtered out domains with bad backlinks (spammy or unrelated to the original site)
  • Finally, I individually went through the remainder in Wayback Machine looking for trouble.

My criteria, since I am on a budget on $$$ and time, is the following -

Majestic
TF > 8

Ahrefs
RefDom > 10
RefDom < 100
Backlinks have no Russian, Japanese, or Chinese text

Waybackmachine
No PBN stuff or 301s to unrelated stuff

Sorting through this time took me quite a few hours because I want to learn. I think I'll be able to speed this up later but, for now, everything is being done manually.

Well, it turns out my list of around 15,000ish turned in to eleven domain this morning. I purchased them on Namecheap. They aren't the prettiest batch in terms of tld or brandability, but they look pretty in the metrics. My goal is to try to sell them quick, recoup my expenses, and move on.

They look like this, which I don't think is too shabby.

There is that one weirdo 243 RD, but... it doesn't LOOK spammy at all too me. Quite clean, unless I'm mistaken.

Questions :

  1. Is sedo the best place to sell expired domains intended for PBN or Niche sites?
  2. If not sedo, who do I sell them to? If here, I've a long way to go since I am not even close to JVIP, nor in a rush to get there. I'm also not willing to open a 500$ marketplace advert without more experience.
  3. How much would you say these domains are worth, bearing in mind there is 2-.is, 2-co.uk, 2-.org, 3-.com, 1-.tv, 1-.vote
  4. Could someone have a look at the domains themselves and evaluate this first batch? I'd like to know if I'm on the right track, but Senpai Nargil doesn't post lists, so I'm following suit to keep mine clean. Please inbox me if so.
  5. Would anyone be interested in seeing my reject pile of domains with Majestic data? I can post it on a site for a possible Adsense stream to help cover expenses or set up a mailing list for daily reject posts. If neither are a good idea, I still would give them out in any way suggested. (Just posting them here will end up sullying them, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
I know the adage that they are worth what they sell for, but I'm just looking for a ballpark figure so I know if I am getting hosed too hard. A little hosing I can handle.

Have a great day, guys! Health, wealth, and snacks!

An internet marketer in the making.

Who knows, but I do want him exposed to it if he can be. Part of the reason I'd like to make this work is so I am home more often for him and his sister. I make good money, but what is $$$ if you miss your kids childhood?

Thanks for the well-wishes!
