My website went from #2 on Google, to #11.

They publicly came out with the changes on November 18, but I am convinced that they implemented it on the 14th. At the time I had recently done a 301 redirect and I thought that might have been the problem (and it may have) but after reading so many panda horror stories online I am starting to think that it has affected my website.

One theory suggests that it may have been the above the fold content, my website has mainly call to action buttons, and then the content below.

Another theory is that because my website has 2 hyphens in the url that I was penalized for looking like a spam site. I was not able to obtain the domain that did not contain the hyphens until after I had started working on the website. Do you think I should do a 301 redirect to the .net or .org site that I now own or do you think that would just make things worse.

Has anyone had any success coming back from the Panda update? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The site in question is k2-herbal-incenses(dot)com

    Thanks,

    Seomonopolist.

To be honest your ranking drops are not that significant but, could caused by Panda...

    A) You need to push your content to the top of the page. (for optimal seo)
    B) If you now own the .net / .org it wouldn't be a bad idea to 301 to them. Especially the .NET... I think people are more likely to click it that way on the SERPS.
    C) Overall continue to build backlinks to your site and you should snap back. Don't forget to diversify your link types.

Going from number #2 to #11 may not seem like a large number, but they are significant in a monetary sense. Excruciating significant.

What kinds of links you ask. All kinds!! I've probably ordered every service on offered on this forum. No straight xrumer blasts to the site or anything like that. Also a lot of manual blog link building. Fun Stuff.

Demon, do you only think that I should possibly do a 301 redirect for people searching, or do you think it could help with Google's algorithm, the algorithm is all I care about. I wouldn't want to 301 just to look pretty for searchers who are never going to find me on the 2nd page. And since I would be losing some link juice by redirecting, I may go down even more if the consequences of the 301 outweigh the benefits of not having hyphens in the url.

I've continued to build backlinks to my site for the last month with no avail. I'm hoping someone who has experience bouncing back from panda reads this and is open with their suggestions.

Strange - I don't think Google would penalize at all for having two hyphens or more in the domain name... there are many established websites with two or more hyphens.

I think it has to do mainly with the backlinks you were building - you want to concentrate on link diversity these days.

Was Nov 18 the latest Panda filter rollout?

Website is about a year old. My links are diverse as they get.

Google announced it November 18. I think they implemented it November 14.

301 redirect doesn't really work in the long run, you can test it out to see if they're penalizing your domain by doing the 301 redirect. If you got back to your previous position by simply 301redirect, that means G penalized your domain somehow and not just a big drop in ranking - from 2nd to 11th isn't really a penalty.

I had a penalized domain 301 to a newly registered domain a few months back. The domain came back instant the next day, but then after 2 months it went back to the penalty box.

If however it was a penalty, just register a new domain every 2 months and 301 redirect to it.

Do you think I should just undue the 301 redirect to no preference? Or do you think by induing my redirect from http://mysite.com to http://www.mysite.com it would just cause more havoc?

This all happened after I implemented the 301, but I thought that Google liked there to be a preference. Don't ask why I decided to mess with this when I was #2. . .

Get high PR links to your site,if you use scrapebox learn to use it properly,if you don't have scrapebox get it.
I'm not gonna go into too detail how you find PR6 comment links because they will get spammed to death by idiots who know no better. It's a learning curve and not one fellow bh'er I have seen post on this links uses them more than once but if it become common knowledge it would kill these links because of the idiots abusing them.

Join forums related to health and alternative medicine(yet again scapebox can help find these). To do it right you'd join the forums and contribute, you may then be in a position to actually post your link in a thread without looking like a spammer.

I'd remove your footer affiliate link and as had been said bring your content up.
You can add the affiliate link later once you've recovered.I'd be tempted to rename the affiliate link to something like "want to make money selling our products" the word affiliate is not googles favourite word.

Set up a couple review sites (buy the domains and host on a seperate hosting account) and place reviews for similar products but not in direct competition then add your own.Again build links to these sites.

Manually create your web 2.0 sites, add some decent info on the benefits of incence and how it can calm the mind after a stressful day etc and help sleep.

After 3-4 weeks then add a direct link to your site,in the meantime add links to sites to high authority alternative medicine sites.

    Do not ping ANY links.

Possibly add a page about the health benefits of using incense, this will not only help sales it's also adding content.
I'd even be tempted to put your optin on the health benefits page instead of your homepage. Why not create a video with someone using incense and saying how it relaxes them and place that on the homepage?
Video is good for seo and again, sales.

    Good luck with it.

    Watch the video too.

The video seems to clearly state that the redirect, no matter the time it was done, is not the issue. Your link and keyword diversity could be an issue or if you are using link farms or link wheels.

First off thanks all for all of the great suggestions. I do have an affiliate website that my call to action on the top goes to. It is MY affiliate program that I set up using idev, but I guess google doesn't know that. Also I just found that I was linking 2 pretty big pictures on my category pages to my outside affiliate url.

I am going to have all three of these changed and then see what happens. I will keep you posted if this yields any progress.
    ----
Also I do have a few link wheels that i built on different hosts. They are mostly hosted on different hosts. They 3 way link but do not reciprocate. Do you feel that they could be contributing to my hurt rankings as well? Check out k2-buy(dot)com on the right under blogroll is where they daisy chain.

Also, stop putting your link on BHW. You would never put it on a Adult or Gambling website (bad links). BHW has a bit worse of a reputation don't you think? Even if not, this forum is marked and there is no relative link juice you want from it for your website. I'd find all links or relevant names (like the one in here) that relate to your website and ask a mod to remove them and put a vanilla url (www.domain.com). Even if not a main reason its a safety precaution.

Tell me about it, got bitten by Panda back in Oct, dropped from #2 to #6 and saw a huge difference in earnings. Look if it's because of Panda then the drop in ranks is to do with your content/copy. Big G deems your content to be low quality as that's what Panda set out to do. You need to analyse your content. Not just your homepage content. Panda is a sitewide 'penalty'. Flush out duplicate, low quality content, look at your ad placements if they're too ad heavy the push more content on te page, if you're on WP I would also factor in the theme's footprint you're using, is it a theme being used on a million other sites, customize the theme or get a themeforest one. Cheers

All that I do is work on this site to improve it. I don't have a job, I just work on this site all day and night. Not kidding.

I was looking in my analytics the other day and noticed that on Oct. 13 my bounce rate went from 30% to 99%. Something was messed up but my tech guy fixed it and it is now back down to 30%. I haven't seen an increase in ranking yet, but I a HOPING that the high bounce rate was the problem. I've been trying to solve this issue for 2 months so far but nothing I try is working.
