Awesome, to see posts like this!

More so it is interesting to look at the importance of rewriting content and building relevant backlinks. While it may not be the most "trendy" strategy, it still gets incredible results!

Good for you :)

You changed so many things that is hard to evaluate what really triggered the recovery.

Also i wouldnt be surprised if your traffic goes down again, as this kind of stuff happens all the time.

Not trying to be negative here, just sayin... anyways congratulations on this!

As others have said, I think you should start diversifying your traffic as much as you can asap.

Hi BHW fam,

So my biggest client which pays about 40% of my houses income for the past 10+ years was hit big by the March core update.

Over 300 suburb pages where hit, they went from ranking in the top 3 positions for over 10 years to being non existent, they where still indexed but none existent....

It was like Google put us in punishment until we learn our lesson.

This whole situation caused my client to think he will need to close the business due to no work for his workers (it is a removalist company). Him closing the business means my family needs to start finding some other Jobs for a bit... So would of been a big change.

But luckily that didn't need to happen... Because yesterday night like 70% of the 300 suburbs all came back, mainly in the same positions as before but most of them even better than before.

I don't know what saved it to be honest as we made so many changes over the past month to try and save the site but I will share all the different things we tried:

  1. First thing we did was rewrite any AI Content to make it more helpful and original, this took a long time.
  2. I added some more high quality backlinks to hopefully give it some strength
  3. we removed all AI images
  4. I removed all american/english spelled words and made them british/engish as the customer is based in Australia.
  5. After researching competitors I also deleted lots of content and the pages went from 1200 words average to about 600-700 words.
  6. About a week ago I had decided to delete all the pages as Google sees them as "Doorway Pages", but a day after trashing them all I decided to bring them all back as they are our main traffic sources for over 10 years.
And last night it recovered.

Now... was it because of something I did? no idea. Was it because Google crawled the site again and just changed its mind? maybe. I guess we will never know but very happy I was able to bring it back and I hope you all find a solution that will work.

Share your thoughts or questions below :)

Thank you

How long after removing your AI content and AI images did you start to show in the SERPs again. Interesting, I have seen some good AI images so I am curious how Google algorithm can tell the difference.

About one week after removing 100% of content and images that where created with AI, also just as they all left in one second, they all came back together so its weird.

Why were you taking risk with AI content on such a website? AI content is good for short term projects where you bank as much as possible in few months and then close the site. Do not use AI content on well established sites.

Unfortunately we had rushed into the AI craze when it first came out and rewrote all our content thinking it will be better structured and more professional which in short term gave us a boost until...
How did you build your new links? Any tips?
Focused only on very high quality backlinks in article form (guest posts mainly) on service related sites. Depends on your niche in my opinion how you should go about the backlinks. Also we disavowed any toxic links that semrush reported.

Reducing average word count from 1200 to 600 had a positive impact ? Is this something now ? Now , Google does not want detailed guides from us anymore ?

That was the only difference I could find with my competitors that where not hit which was the main reason I did it. I guess they don't want useless content? Or want things to be straight to the point? Not sure but I do believe it is niche based so for example if you are writing about a pharmaceutical pill or something I guess more information would be necessary whereas if you are writing about plastic cup you would not need so much? maybe. who knows... SEO 2024.....

Have they reduced your payment because of this sudden problem which occured ? My concern is that they might be thinking to replace you even if you have got the rankings back. Never depend on only one client .

That is not a problem with us as we have a very transparent relationship with the client and have been working together for over 10 years now. Also as the rankings where gone we told him that until the rankings are back we will not recieve any payment from him to make sure something like that does not happen but luckily they came back! In the past we had a problem like that but his experience with a different company went horrible and he was apologetic and really wanted to come back to us :)

But yes we are trying our hardest to find other big ticket client as we have 9 clients in Greece paying xxx monthly but since he is an Australian customer he pays us xxxx monthly, hopefully we will be able to find more overseas customers.
